Cam Seal Question

Which way does the cam seal go in? I dont have any refference to go by so im kinda SOL. I figured it would go in with the flat side flush with the camshaft and not the head.... I have 2 pics Illustrating what I mean. How is the seal supposed to sit?

(the seal funnels towards the head)OR

(the seal funnels towards the block)

that pic makes no sense. If you mean the front cam seals then the open end face the motor and the closed end faces the cam sprocket.
