im looking into getting cams for my car. i dont want re ground cams because i dont want to have to replace shims and adjust valve lash. who all besides jwt makes cams for the 240 that are not re grinds. also, how hard it the instal? it seems really easy, just let me know what you think.

you can get the PDM cams and pay a core charge if you don't want to regrind your cams. All cams are regrinds, you can't just buy brand new ones. You can't just make a cam out of your ***, you have to have a base to work worth.

Your car is really nice dude, but you should eliminate one of the pics. 2 is just too much.;)

i meant that the jwt cams are ground on fresh billets. i guess they are stronger, and i also read that you can just drop these right in, but if you use re-ground cams you have to adjust valve lash and adjust the clearence with the shims. i want something that i can just put in and go. please help me out.

Even if they are stronger....I doubt youll need them any stronger than your stock ones. The only thing your getting with a new core is a bigger price. Pdm stage 2 cams put about 10hp down to the REAR wheels. And at 4 dollars a shim it comes out to about 400 dollars which is not bad for 10hp.

Ok, Im still learning about engines. Tell me if Im wrong. Camshafts open and close the exhaust and intake valves. They control the lift and duration of the valves. By putting on a custom camshaft you allow the time the valves are open to be longer and open farther. Am I correct so far? What do cam gears do? Will I need them in order to put the custom ones on, or are they really just to adjust the lift/duration if you wanna go from calm to serious. Im gonna have a daily driver. I know I can search, but this thread is open already.

Also, what is a core charge and should i get an ECU to really get the potential out of them? There is an open thread about core charges, but i still dont understand

Cam gears are connected to the crank gear by the timing chain to synchronize them. A core charge is just what you pay if you don't give them your original camshaft.

Well i dont have the PDM cam, as i would have needed to have the towers milled down. I have the JWT cam, and so fare i really cant say much about it sense i havent been able to drive my car much. but they say its good for NA and turbo.

Also on the built cam, pretty much means that it was new, not a regrind of a cam.

Also Cam Sproket (gear, pulley) is what rotates and times the cam to the crank. an ajustable cam sproket alows you to advance and retard the cam timeing (difrent then ignition timing)

a returned ECU will not be drifrent weather you have boltons, or cams. the only time they change it is for changed compresion ration, larger injectors, larger MAF, FI, transmission (auto-manual), and N20 maps. there might be some others.

hey jrc90240sx! what jwt cams do you have and how much were they? how hard were they to put in and did you have to replace anything else like shims, or adjust anything?

i just put the jwt cams in my 95. if you have a good tool set and a helper to loosen the nuts on cam sprokets and retorque to 110 its not too hard. Nismo offers a cam set with similar specs. part #99996-ka24d2. the list is 630 but i would call abc nissan 800=373=1066. they are in phx az and they have great prices

well i have the sohc, so it is a bit cheaper for me. I belive it was 380, but it was so long ago its hard to remember. and with all the trouble i have had, i havnt really goten a chance to drive it much. and i am making the machine shop rebuild it again. oh and i might grabe the ajustable sproket to make up for some stuff with my block hight.

Nissanmotorsports has a new set of 275 degree cams for the KA24DE. I would really like to have a set of those with degree sprokets to dial them in.
