Cam Power

I don't see cams dicussed all too often. I have a 95 240sx with an S13 blacktop motor w/ the stock T25 still. I'm looking at gaining a little bit of power. I can't afford the turbo upgrade I want yet, so I was just thinknig i'd go with some mild cams to give me a boost. I was thinking the HKS Step 1 cams 264/264 or Toda 264/264. Why don't people seem to get cams very often? They're only like 500 total or so. What kinda gain could one expect with them? I'm eventually going to go with a T3/T04E turbo but I don't want to have a crap power band or super rough idle, so I was figuring the wussiers cams for just a slight increase. But what will they do with my stock setup right now?

This may be a stupid question but why would you spend 500 for cams when you can get a new T3/T04E for under 500? Do you do plan on spending a lot of time at the track?

264's aren't whimpy. People probably don't buy them too often because you'll lose driveability on the street...you don't really gain power, it just moves from a broader area down low to a brief area up top. Plus, if your camshafts provide higher lift, you may need stiffer springs or lighter valves. It seems so much easier to just upgrade the turbo and fuel.

he would have to get a new manifold and a way to get more fuel into the engine. thats more then 500$

Where could I get a T3/T04E for $500? Enjuku's kit is like 2700. Maybe just the turbo itself, but the manifold, etc. How cheap can that be done?

if you're on a budget, but want to upgrade the cams, just get the stock nissan cams from a na SR20. they add power w/o a sugnificant loss of drivability.just another cheap upgrade trick to ponder on =)
