ive been running my ka-t for months and its been running perfect. untill noon yesterday it started making weird noises and it was missing. so today i pulled my valve cover off and saw that at tdc my intake is fine and my exhaust is off by one tooth. actually its back one tooth.

what would cause this to do that. this is the weirdest thing i had ever seen

I haven't worked on a DE, but is there any excessive slack in the chain? Have you ever done the timing job (Guides, chain, tensioner, etc.)? If not then it's very well possible you jumped a tooth.

Not sure if our motors are interference or not, but I wouldn't drive it till you found out. No need in hurting the valves or worse.

Could be several reasons:- chain guide severely worn- chain tensioner not working properly; could be due to loss of oil pressure
