OkBroke a bolt off in the cylinder head. It was a cam bolt (on one of the journals).1) Everything is new (head, cams, journals, bolts)2) I was torqueing them at 9nm's (should be torqued between 9-12 nms).

What do I do?Send the head back to manufacturer saying "You gave me sh***y boltsSend it to a shop and say "fix it"Mind you I just torqued the head onto the block, along with the intake mann.Maybe i'll pay a mechanic next time to do just this part. Or i'll only torque them to about 2-4nms. ::sigh::The cam bolts scare me so much. '93 240 VertKA24DE DOHC

If the head thread hole is not damaged, then use a fresh new bolt. It's possible the bolt was defective but more probable that it may have been too long and bottomed out in the head.

Insure that all the cam journal cap bolts are of the correct length.

My worry is not that I don't have the right sized bolts (I accidently ordered a bunch of OEM cam bolts from nissan a while back, i'll just use those this time) but how the sweet molly am I going to get the broken bolt out of the head? It needs to be either:A)drilled out, and retap the holeB)scored on top so it can be unscrewed (i think its impossible to get something in there to score it)

I want to just take it to a shop and ask them to take it out. How much do you guys think they'll charge?

As long as you remove the head, strip it down and take it to a machine shop, it shouldn't cost much at all; maybe $25.

The shop will most likely center drill a pilot hole into the broken bolt and use an Easy-out.

In case the threads in the head get butchered up, you can Heli-coil the threads.

I suppose that's true. My goal was to have the car running by Christmas. It hasn't been running for a year.Plus I just finished torqueing the head onto the block, and the inake to the head. I was all excited that the car was progressing again. Well thanks then, i'm off to Tahoe for the week, and it won't bother me anymore as to what im supposed to do about it. I'll get to it when I get back.
