Well i wanted to start this thread to find out what the deal is on CAM GEARS.......

First, of all, they control the lift and duration of the valves.

And what are the main manufacturers of cam gears and DIFFERENCES?

i only know of AEM. if i went out and bought AEM cam gears and put them in my engine (whhich only has an intake) would i get more HP gains?

and then as i get more mods (ie, headers, ehxaust, pulleys, etc.) would i have to change anytrhing to get more HP??

maybe this should be a sticky, i dunno, but thanks to all who reply!!

First off, they do not control the lift and duration of the valves. The camshaft does that. All a cam gear does is allow adjustment of the cam TIMING in relation to the crankshaft. This allows the valves to open either earlier or later in the rotation, whichever is more desireable. As for manufacturers, i have the Nismo adjustable one for the SOHC, although with my high compression, it is currently set to 0 (no adjustment) and the engine runs mean. Cam gears should only be purchased with an aftermarket cam and then adjusted on a dyno to get the most out of the new cams. Otherwise they are just another sticker to put on the fender of your car.Obviously the DOHC will have 2 cam gears and allow for seperate adjustments of the intake and exhaust cams (one can advance while the other retards for instance), while the SOHC has but one gear and adjusts the intake and exhaust in the same direction at the same time by the same ammount.Hope this helps a little.

I really dont see the need for this post, as its the same as your other. That being said I also dont see why it would need to be sticky?

Everything in this thread is in your other one.

Also just because aem makes gears doesnt mean anything as they dont make ones for the KA... Its like saying I am thinking about buying a header, what do you all think about the DC header?.

Might I add that the KA doesn't even have cam gears!

false. it does. all cars have some gear on the end of the cam. JWT sells adjustable cam gears for the KA24DE's.

stillen also lists them(but they get them from JWT)...

the major problem is the gears are inside the valve cover, amking it a ***** to adjust, because you have to open the cover, adjust, close the cover, put everything back together, dyno, repeat.-chet

SPROCKET-One of a set of projections on the rim of a wheel, arranged so as to engage the links of a chain.

GEAR-A wheel having teeth that fit into teeth in another wheel: wheels turning other wheels by teeth.
