my CAS is acting weird, at full advance I'm only getting like 2-4 degree's according to my timing light. The car runs like complete crap and after a 10 min drive the turbo manifold glows bright orange.

I checked the timing of the motor, and it all looks good, but today just to see (and because I needed to do it anyhow) I put a new timing belt on and it's still doing it. In order to get the thing to run I have to unbolt the thing and twist it WAY over.

When these things die do they normally do somthing like this? Or would the problem be somthing else entirely.

thanks,

Sounds like the cas went south on you and the plugs are firing with the valves open and heating up the manifold. You can try taking the cas apart and see if the trigger wheel has slipped. It should have a locking screw to secure it. I've seen them come loose on 4cyl and v6 engines. Throughs the timing way out. It maybe you twisted the dowel in the cam with the turbo or twisted the cas shaft.

They are not to much higher main. than other cars but are older and tend to take a little more TLC.

it's no more high maintnance than a turbo KA or SR. The only thing I've really had problems with is this CAS and my turbo, both of which are rather trivial.

All the other issues I've delt with are more tunning related (as to how I've got the car settup) and have nothing to do with the motor itself.

Actually I replaced the camshaft about 2 weeks ago after the dowel got tore up (in the cam) that was an act of stupidity on my part that caused it.... I wonder if I screwed somthing up in the CAS and it just took a few weeks for it to show through.

well dustin (lookslikea240) was telling me you can locate just about anything for these motors.... im going to be getting his motor but its got weak spark if at all and it not starting so now i got get it running, wich means rewiring and then if that dont work replacement of the entire ign systemn one peice at a time till it does run. where can i get a new harness, ecu, ign chip (ill find), coils packs(will ca18det packs work??) is there an ign relay that might go bad an cause this ? if so that also , ive spent a few hours reading through the crap internet version of the fsm it answered a few of my questions but raised alot more.. i have to call around to some shops to see if anyone might beable to help with running a diagnostic on it to see if its faulty hardware. i really want to get it going before this spring,, an i dont want to have to pay a mechanic to do this for me, i think i can figure out with the fsm (anyone have one for sell or know where i can buy one ?
