Well here is the problem I got my engine rebuilt about a year and a half ago and when I go it back the engine didn't start up took it back to the mechanic and he called me the next day and told me that the engine was ready. I asked what was wrong w it and he told me that it had been some grounds and connector that were hooked up wrong. I checked the compression on the motor and I got 150 to 155 all across all 4 cylinders and it burns up alittle oil so I told him about it and he said it was because the block was from a 92 and the head from a 97 I said ok but didn't really beleave him. Now just yesturday I checked the cams cause I was going to do a cam swap and it turns out that the cams are in the oposite direction the exhaust on the intake and the intake on the exhaust. Could this have vent the valves just enough to were it would star but not get the full 180 compression and the burning of the oil. The way i have the cams right now is 248/240 w little to no rotation on the exhaust cam.

you cant really diagnose an issue like this without actually looking at the block apart....and some times nissan marked the intake and ex cams backward...as noted many times here on the forums...if it were me...id go throu the engine with a fine tooth comb...and look at everything...sorry i cant be more of a help..i wish you luck.
