I was reading a bit on some of the posts and Im a bit confused about these swaps, if someone could help me out. 1)Theres a bunch of posts on getting the 240/248 cams for a few extra ponies, Are the cams from a 91 DE a direct swap for my 95 DE cams? No mods necessary?

2)For higher compression I also read getting the SOHC pistons to bump it up to 11.1 i believe, do i also need the SOHC connecting rods? Is this also a direct swap? If did switch out the pistons for higher compression would i be able to run it of 91 octane without any problems?

3)Last but not least, this is for u tuners who have had experience with KA build-ups, would I have any problems if I do the above 2 swaps, like valve clearance because of the the higher lift and compression? And do uu guys think these two would work cool if I also had my block bored 0.030 over for a some more displacement?

I appreciate any answers, im really looking forward to doing these, but i wanna get everything cleared up first. -Infidel

searching would work wonders, but maybe i can help send you on your way

cams from 91-93 and some 94 are all 240/248 duration. and there are all kidns of fun cams swaps you can search for.

SOHC pistons will probably ping alot with 91 octane. something in the 96 octane range seems more correct to me, but i havent done this yet, so i cant say for sure

there isnt any more lift in s13 cams than s14 cams, just duration.

if you bore you block over you lose the ability to use the original nissan rings, but if you buy bigger pistons to start with you wont have oversized rings on a stock piston, which you could do...

if youre not trying to do this on the cheap go nuts, but for the bare budget its better to be able to use stock nissan ring sizes

So using the SOHC pistons wont be 2 good then if its going 2 ping. Someone posted that a company sells 10.7 i think it was, but i forgot who posted it, you think that would work well on 91 octane? Do you know of anybody that would sell a high compression piston 0.030 over? I do want want to run higher compression with that little extra displacement

the .30 overbore wont even gain you .25 of a liter... more like .10 of a liter gain with that overbore

Really? I had a read a post on here and someone wrote tha it would increase your displacement a little shy of 2.5, like 2489cc

Yes, and that would be adding roughly .1L.

2.4+.1 = 2.5 last time I checked.

I dont think you will ping with 91 octane, so long as you keep the ignition timing at stock, they sell only 93 octane where i live, so i dont know if there is a great deal of difference. I do know that there are a lot of crate engines that run 12:1 CRs and some motorcycles run a 12:1 CR on pump gas with no problem.

As DJPants said, you shouldnt have valve clearance issues, since the '91-'94 cams all have the same lift, just a longer duration than the S14 cams

the E pistons are a direct swap, no mods necessary, and one of the guys on this board sells them and the rings in standard size and .040" OB which is what i am planning to run.

a .040" overbore is about .1L, but it changes with the larger the overbore. I intend to bore mine 1.5 over when I get my spare. That is more than just .3L. I think it was about .6L, but anyone can feel free to check the math. Point being, you can get about 200Whp with those mods, and a guy I know off here in town had it with squeeze, and was into mid 14s. If that is good enough for you, then that is great. Me, I need boost.
