I have never heard of "radio times". I'll wait for a more credible source.

What would they call the show? American cars suck? The only one of the three that has any love for American cars is Hammond....

SO, was the Mustang getting high marks just a thing with Clarkson vetoing everybody else's vote, or was that just one that fell though the cracks?

Also, SP in the title.

I don't trust the source, but it would be fun if they did come here.

Amazon is Going to Pay a LOT for the Services of Former ‘Top Gear’ Host Jeremy Clarkson
Image

Last month, Jeremy Clarkson and the rest of the former “Top Gear” gang signed a monster deal with Amazon to create a new car show.

According to the FT, sources say the deal signed by the former hosts of the popular BBC car show calls for Amazon to sink a reported $250 million into 36 episodes over three years.

Now, we know how much lead host Jeremy Clarkson will be paid for his troubles.

In a report by the Telegraph’s Lucy Clarke-Billings, sources say the bombastic TV personality will earn roughly $46 million over the life of the contract.

As a result of the Amazon deal, Clarkson is now one of the highest paid TV hosts in Britain.

According to the Telegraph, Clarkson’s Amazon show will receive a budget of around $7 million a episode – a considerable bump over “Top Gear’s” $1.5 million per show budget which was one of the largest on the BBC.

Yeah, that's pretty insane. Amazon is paying Clarkson's crew close to $7 million per episode for a show that used to air literally for free on basic cable. I'll be curious how many people actually sign up.

They were a huge success, so I'm betting a lot of people will watch. However, there's a lot of people who already have Prime. My questions is, will they get enough NEW subscribers to pay for this or will there be viewing parties at people's homes (like football) where 10 people will watch for the price of 1?

I agree TG-UK was a huge success on free basic cable, but the big question is will Amazon Prime get enough new subscribers willing to pay $100 per year for the privilege of watching just 12 hours of new programming per year. That really ain't much and I'd expect that fee to go up. I know things worked well for Howard Stern when he switched from free radio to pay satellite, but he was offering 25 hours of new material every WEEK at the time. Amazon is talking just 12 hours of Clarkson programming per YEAR. Add to the mix Walmart is about to announce they're jumping into the market with their own Netflix-like service. I'd like to see Clarkson's new show, but I want to see Amazon offering some other compelling original programming besides that one show on their service. As one of millions who already pay for cable and netflix, I can't imagine I'm the only one questioning whether Amazon would be worth spending the money even with Clarkson. I guess we'll find out soon...
