I am having an extremely difficult time choosing/finding good wheels for my 91 300ZX TT. It's hard for me to picture the wheels installed on the car to know whether or not they go together, and even more important, I don't know which ones would fit the way I'd want them to. There are so many factors that come into play in the calculation that its hard for me to figure it out without having the wheels on the car. (Yes I have read all the threads I can find about offset, diameter, width etc but it's still hard for me to confidently apply it to a purchase) I am hoping for some guidance from those who are knowledgeable. :wavey:

I can probably already guess which ones people will most likely recommend because I see the same ones over and over in the search results in this forum :werd: but I am open to any suggestion.

What I am looking for is primarily a deep concave, and secondly, some lip. I want to go staggered and I am prepared to roll/pull the rear fenders to accommodate an applicable wheel setup.

I will hold off on providing some examples of wheels that I like until after I get some responses. Thanks in advance! :dblthumb:

If your going to want lip and or concave wheels, your looking at low positive offsets, or negative offsets, those will give you the most lip or concave look, and i would say anything from 18x9.5 and wider...

I would also check out Rimtuck.com to see a couple examples and note differences!

In all honesty I don't have a problem with people posting wheel threads because to be completely honest making a $3,500 purchase on wheels that may not fit your car right or the way you want it will piss me off to no end as you can only imagine. So with that being said I will post a wheel thread when I get ready to purchase a set.

Its nice being able to get Nico club's opinons some of the guys here are seriously "wheel gurus" and have went through many sets of wheels on their Z's so they know what sizes fit and what doesn't.

I suggest you go ahead and post the pics of what your interested in I would like to see.

I'm a wheel whore. I love nice wheels.

What's your budget? I believe I can come up with a few examples + offsets and dimensions for you.

First ones coming to mind:

Work emotion CR KAI (concave)
MB Battle (concave)
OZ Futura (Baller)

If you have deep pockets, and want lip and concave, check out Rotiform wheels! Great selection on both lip and concave wheels!

Went on rimtuck.com (great site! thanks Mr93z32) and looked through the 300ZX pix, the only ones that kind of caught my attention were:
Image
and in second place:
Image

TTkickedin: I'd like to stay around $5,000, maybe $6,000 as my budget. I looked at your 3 suggestions:
-Work Emotion CR-KAI: I'd choose over the other 2
-MB Battle: was ok
-OZ Futura: was a definite no :nono:
What I liked about the Emotions over the Battles is the fact that the spokes don't end at the edge of the wheel, instead, there's an uninterrupted ridge that goes around the whole wheel. Also, I like the look of the 5 dual spokes over the equidistant 6 spokes.

Mr93z32: It's funny you should mention Rotiform because I really liked one of their wheels and I actually called earlier today for a quote. They told me about $1,600 per wheel for these:
Image
It has the concavity and lip that I'm looking for and they're within my budget (albeit on the VERY high side of that budget)

As for a quick glimpse as to what wheels I wanted (and you'll see I've bounced all over the place), at first I wanted to get wheels that were on high end cars from the same era of my '91 Z32. That landed me on these Lambo wheels that I fell in love with:
Image
After more searching, I landed on these and was committed to having them:
Image
(Look at that concavity and that lip! :dblthumb: )
Started doing research on the specs and found out that not only were they rare and expensive, they had a different bolt pattern than my Z. I considered getting wheel adapters to solve that issue, but some people advised me against it due to the amount of power my car has going to the wheels. So I started looking for a company that would copy that wheel and customize it to my Z. That's when I found ADV1 wheels and their ADV-X program. I had a conversation with them and they quoted me a surcharge of $6,000 for the design of the wheel, then at least $8,000 for the wheels themselves :bash: I wasn't going to spend that much money on wheels, and although I liked these from their collection:
Image
they cost about $8,500 for the set and the wait is months. (notice they look similar to the Rotiforms, but 2x the price)
Feeling frustrated and beat, I've started considering either an Infiniti wheel (keeping in line with putting the luxury line wheel on the parent brand like I did by putting Audi wheels on my VW), like the G37S:
Image
OR
Image
OR the IPL wheels:
Image
(went to the Infiniti dealership and was quoted about $4,800 for that set)
OR some other cheaper wheel that has concave and lip until I can afford the final set of wheels that I want.

So I come to you guys for some suggestions and guidance, and hopefully from this thread I can find a good set of wheels for my car. So thank you in advance!

PS: I want to have wheels on my car within a couple of weeks so my body guy can roll/pull the fenders accordingly

Personally, for that price, I would stay away from the Infinity wheels, I would love to see those Rotiform's on a Z, and with your budget, you can basically go buck wild with any wheel you'd like, you can basically afford and Rotiform wheel out there, But you can also look at DPE wheels, HRE wheels, for super concave and lip! I'll show you a couple of examples that catch my eye!

Second Row Horizontal L to R: CSR05, CST7, CS10

Third Row Horizontal L to R: CSR10, CS16, CS20

Very nice selection on DPE wheels

I am also in love with these HRE Vintage Series 505's

^ those hre's remind me of ferrari f40 Speedlines!! id love to have em (also look at autostrada modena :dblthumb:)

Why no to the OZ futuras? those wheels are a very classy wheel, it's not like they're rice.. never met anyone that doesn't like em.

Anyway

For 6,000 you can pretty much get any wheels you want. I was on stanceworks and they got these STUPID wide wheels. Negative offset in the front, like 1 in the back 18x13 and 18x11 wheels. They could fit on a z? haha.

The OZ Futuras are nice looking wheels on their own and they go well with ^^that^^ car, I just don't think they go with the Z...or at least they're not the look that I'm going for.

Mr93z32: DPE and HRE have some NICE wheels! :fap: Where did you find the picture of those wheels though, because I couldn't find them on the official websites.
Also, a lot of those wheels are not available in diameters less than 19"...I was recommended not to go above 18" due to the amount of power I have going to the wheels, and general fitment issues...what are people's take on this?

All excellent wheel companies, all offer forged wheels in custom offsets for less than $5k. $5k is a legit budget for custom wheels.

18" is the perfect size for a Z32 IMHO.

If you want to have the same size wheel all around for best handling and the ability to rotate the wheels, a set of 18x9 +30 to +33 would work great, and let you run 275s in all four corners.

BigTDogg: I'm looking for a staggered look. I don't mind not being able to rotate the wheels. I was thinking about 10" width in the rear and 9" in the front, but I have no idea about offsets. Would you have a recommendation?

on a 10" rear I'd suggest a +35 to +40. Might just need to roll the fender to fit 285s.

Up front on a 9" you could do a +30 and be good

Sounds like 10" rear wheels wouldn't need much modification other than a fender roll...my body guy was saying he would need to cut and add sheet metal in order to accomodate that size of a wheel :frown: Is that unnecessary?

See my sig, 18x10 +35 rear 285/30/18 and 18x9 +25 front 255/35/18 Rear with my height required a roll and the bumper tabs shaved along with some camber.

Really unnecessary. Ask your body guy about 18x13 rear wheels. :lolling:

...Really interested to see if an 18x13 is even remotely possible to fit up under there.

There's a video of a 300zx on 315's..This is why I ask.

You would need a wide body to fit a 13" wheel in the back. The sizing to clear inner suspension would have to be a 18x13 +0, which is absolutely ridiculous.

 Thank God for forums like this. Without it I would've paid mad money for something I didn't even need. I had a feeling it was overkill, and I kept asking whether it was necessary, but who am I to question a "professional"? :gotme

Anybody have any experience/input on http://www.corwheels.com/?

As right now I'm leaning towards this kind of wheel:
Image
18"x10" in the rear with an offset somewhere from +35 to +40 and 18"x9" in the front with somewhere around +30 offset. Would it be correct to say that the lower the offset, the more concave the wheel face can be? I'm going for as much concavity as possible for a daily driver with minimal body work needed to fit them.
The Rotiform wait time is 8-10 weeks though

My current dilemma is, I don't want to wait 2 months to do my body work and paint so without the wheels, how would I know how far to roll the fenders?

A fender roll is just a roll of the inner lip. A pull moves the fender outward. Avoid a pull at all costs, IMHO, because it's very expensive to get it to look right. Rolls can be done easily without wheels. I'd use the OEM wheels to bring the car to the paint shop anyway.

I understand the desire for a type of look, but keep in mind the functionality of the wheel as well.

Those Rotiforms you have pictured, while very sexy, would be an absolute Taiwanese wh0re to clean. The rim is deeper than the wheel center, leaving part of the rim exposed to dirt and dust. Member ArcticDragon192 has some of the most expansive wheel fitting experience on here. I'd PM him for his front wheel thoughts. I would go no greater than a 30mm stagger between front and rear. 255/285 F/R max, IMHO. Otherwise you begin to really understeer when cornering.

I just realized I lied when I said this would be a daily driver. This would be a weekend toy so the wheels shouldn't get that dirty that often. Nonetheless, I enjoy taking time in washing my vehicles. If I ever got tired, I'd hire a "Taiwanese wh0re" to clean the wheels that would be a "Taiwanese wh0re to clean" :chuckle:
I couldn't find ArcticDragon192's profile for nothing! Maybe he changed his name? :gotme
