hey i am going to buy a carbon hood for my car (98 240). i am looking at two brands, VIS and SEIBON. both seem like good brands. but i want to know how the fitment is (not just on the kouki) and also the longevity of them. so if any of you have information on that i would love to hear about it. i just want the best carbon hood for my car. also if you want to list places with good prices. THANKS!!

there both pretty much the same. they both fit equally decent. make sure you run hood pins, because ive heard of both vis and seibon hoods flying up and shattering.

I had a VIS hood on my eclipse and the fitment was good, but the gel coat finished hazed over really bad before it was a year old. I hear that you are supposed to re-clear them after you buy them if you want them to last but I did not know that at the time. I assumed that buying a quality brand like VIS meant that it was going to last longer? So, just keep that in mind.

I've had the VIS double vented CF hood for about three years now, great weight savings for sure. The finish has faded over time, there are certain spots that have a hazing. I use silicon based cleaners and it hides the blemishes temporarily. Getting s "GOOD" clear coat is probably not a bad idea.

My current car came with a Vis hood and trunk. The hood fits ok, but not oem good. As for the clear coat, I'm not positive on the longevity of it, the finish on mine was great, but currently it's sanded down and ready for paint. I hate the look of the unfinished hood, please just paint yours when you get it, or you will look like a ricer.

The trunk fit like hell, so I sold it and put a stock one on from my parts car, I won't miss the 6 pound difference or whatever trivial amount of weight it saved.

I really wouldn't be surpirsed if those hoods all came from the same place.

at any rate, with ANY carbon hood, you should ALWAYS clear coat it. It doesn't matter what brand it is, as long as it only has the top gel coat ONLY, it will dull and turn "cloudy" down the line.

So please, CLEAR your hood if you want it to last.
