Hey, people on here were telling me that you dealt with the same issue im dealing with now. Ive been hearing this odd thumping sound coming from my right front. Ive already had a strut replaced once, the sound went away and then came back. I called the dealer bitching. They ordered another strut. How does this relate to what you had to deal with?

Just use the search function to see the threads regarding this issue. Search the Versa forum, "noise" as a keyword and Codered as Creator.

Also, before bumping the crap out of the thread, you might just want to actually give him a chance to reply. Given the fact that he is a full time student who also has a part-time job, there are LARGE stretches of the day that he can't come on and access the forum.

Thank you EV, yeah I'm a full time student and i just got off work a little bit ago.

My deal was with the front left. There was a distinct thunking noise from the FL side. And only from the FL side, it would happen when i made a hard right (shifting the weight from the center to the left of the car) and when i pulled into driveways, speed bumps ect. I had numerous parts replaced and some out of my pocket. Eventually they replaced almost the whole front suspension (both struts, springs, steering rack and column, and a few other odds and ends. I filed for Florida Lemon Laws and to make a LONG story short, I'm in my new versa now.

I hope this helps and i'm sorry i couldn't make it to this thread any sooner.

I apologize about the bumping. I guess I got a little too anxious. I appreciate the feedback. I did search past forums under the creators name. I didnt know that I could do that. Again, I appreciate all the help :-)

Did anyone find out what was causing the thumping sound? I have an '02 I35 that gets the thump sound turning right. It is mainly noticeable at slower speeds and sweeping right turns with bumps. This may be because of lower road noise but anyway. I have had the stabilizer bars and struts replaced. This seemed to help the ride alot and actually reduced the frequency with which I hear the thump, but it is definitely still there.

It ended up being a strut bearing on the passenger side, its been quite for a while now!

Was it in the strut mount? My mechanic replaced both struts and strut mounts and stabilizer. I'm wondering if there is another bearing or bushing somewhere close that may need replaced? The mechanic said he searched for awhile and could not locate the noise. Any other suggestions?

I was told by my NEW Nissan mechanic, the STRUT BEARING is not available. He changed the strut mount which was no help. Do you have a part number or any info I can jam in front of his nose? I am really Sick and Tired of dealing with the DYSFUNCTIONAL Nissan Service Organization. I don't fully blame the mechanic, he has NOT been provided adequate Nissan training or support. These poor guys are doing the best they can with limited NISSAN resources. I have the Nissan service manual for Versa. It is terribly deficient. They do not cover any detail on transmissions or engine internals, or strut bearings. I found the bearing (made by NSR) on-line for $95. I suspect I'll wind up buying it and replacing it myself. I believe in the "Git 'er dun!" principle. NOT the "Bull**** 'em around for as long as you can" philosophy. Don't forget the BS translates into "dollars in their pocket". So why WOULDN'T they do it? NISSAN condones it !!!!!

The STRUT BEARING is a thrust bearing between the strut mount and top of the spring. It carries ALL the weight of the front end on its respective side of the car. It allows the spring to swivel freely during steering and transfers the weight of the car to the strut mount and ultimately into the body of the car. The Versa strut is a bit different than the older ones I have worked on, in that the coil spring and strut bearing are in direct contact with the strut mount. This allows the engineers to reduce the overall height of the assembly and fit it into tighter spaces. I think the Versa strut might be the same as Renault, but only specualting here.

Hello all, my '07 Sentra now has 35,000 miles on it. Typical problem many are experiencing. Thumping noise in front end when turning to left or right from center wheel position. The problem is strut bearing. My dealer replaced the left front STRUT bearing, noise went away. It was literally destroyed. One month later, the right bearing failed. IF YOU HAVE A THUMPING NOISE IN THE FRONT WHEN TURNING OFF OF CENTER POSITION... DEMAND THAT YOUR DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TAKE OFF THE STRUT BEARINGS AND INSPECT THEM. REMEMBER, THIS BEARING DESIGN, ACCORDING TO NISSAN'S BROCHURES, IS A NEW DESIGN(TRUE ROLLER BEARING). MY DEALER HAD TO WAIT FOR THE BEARING BECAUSE THEY WERE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. WHEN A CAR COMPANY HAS A NATION WIDE BACKORDER FOR A FAILING PART, THIS SHOULD LET ALL OF US KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS BEARING. MY SENTRA IS GETTING TRADED IN THIS WEEK. I CAN'T TRUST THIS CAR WON'T HAVE FURTHER PROBLEMS.
