calling anyone with older nissan/datsun pickup knowledge

moderators, i know this isnt Q related but im not getting any helpfull info from the datsun people and since this forum is visited so often id like to see if theres anyone here who can help me.

that being said

i have an 85 nissan/datsun 720/do1 what ever you want to call it. its the older body style pick up with the z24 motor( has 8 spark plugs)in it.

im looking for lower rpms in 5th gear. if you want you can read my posts in the datsun section to catch up on what info has been given. the truck gets good gas milage, but when i try to keep up with traffic, mpg goes all to hell.

the question is...

is there a nissan/toyota with a low geared rear end that i can swap in.

has anyone heard of this being done before. will it be worth the effort. im trying to be at 2-2500 rpms in 5th gear.

im real handy, i can weld if i have to, but id rather find a leafspring susp. truck with a low geared rear and swap it in. dont think i havent mocked my extra q rear up there!
