The Nikkor will mount but won't AF. Not sure if it will meter either. You can still use it though.

Now when it comes to buying lenses. What do you look for to find out if it'll fit?

Almost every Nikon lens that you can find will fit on your camera. Many won't autofocus though. All Nikon AF-S and AF-I lenses will function fully whereas AF and AF-D lenses will work but you'll have to manually focus. The AI and AI-S lenses will also fit but won't meter or autofocus.

Why wouldn't the nikor AF?

I thought you Nikon fanboys were always praising lens compatibility yada yada.

Because it doesn't have an internal focus motor, it needs to rely on the body to drive the little mechanism in there that moves the glass to focus. The D3000 doesn't have the little thing that will turn the screw on the lens to AF.

Nope. Only us darkhorse Pentax users can claim that. I can use any lens Pentax ever made on my d-slr (K10D). I have an adapter to use their non-K mount lenses from the 50-60's. Also own several 30yr old lenses in perfect shape. I prefer to use MF most of the time except for motorsports applications.

That being said, I think they make an adapter to use Pentax glass on Nikon bodies.

Thats awesome! my father in-law has several Nikon lenses from the mid 90's I can get. Do they also make an adapter for Canon lens to fit on Nikon? My pops has this huge Canon lens thats just sitting around.

A Canon lens on a Nikon body probably isn't a good idea. Not only is the Canon mount larger than the Nikon, I believe that the rear element of Canon lenses is closer to the sensor (or film) than on Nikon's so I would imagine that you would have a lot of problems with focusing distances and stuff. Even if you do find a good Canon to Nikon adapter, it won't autofocus or anything.
