Thanks! But you're not threadjacking at all. I'll try out av mode today when the sun gets out, because it's kinda 6 am right now. LOL

or... I could go check how my camera handles low light.. hmm

I'll bear that in mind. I have my first labs on tuesday, so I should be able to take some shots of food then.

And one thing I realized, the more natural the lighting = the better the photo. Lamps and artificial lighting often give horrible glares on anything that's shiny.

and the flash on this camera isn't horrible, but i still prefer not to use it so far.

Should like you already pulled the trigger; but to add be yourself a nice tripod that can go low, but sturdy enough to hold your your SLR without tipping over.
if you haven't already do yourself a favor and go grab a EF 50mm F1.8 for the low. Best bang for the buck lens period.

One of the best times to shoot is when it's overcast, the clouds diffuse the light pretty evenly. Tungsten bulbs (standard yellow bulbs) make everything yellow and gross (unless you compensate with white balance.) And the flash isn't bad at all! You can actually get a little softbox to diffuse the on-camera flash as well to make it look just a bit better.

Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

yeah I use natural light whenever possible, preferably softened (indirect sunlight, window shots, etc).
I only use my flash when absolutely necessary- shooting into the sun or something. Even then I'll do multiples with and without it, and delete what sucks later.

Bundle came with a tripod.
Gonna get me more lenses after my bank recovers from taking the hit from putting a down payment on my next car.

I actually took a fair bit of shots today and i'll post some up here.

this photo really irritated me, I couldn't get the right shot of these birds flying around, one because they moved too fast and two because of the non existent light.
there's a lot of noise in the photo and it's really annoying but I'll try again.
