Hey guys,

I jumped on this forums because I need a little help! And I know there is the 'Search' button, but I am a little confused as to what exactly I am looking for. So please bare with me!

I myself is a Honda/VW enthusiast, and have done rebuilds and swaps to that nature in the past. So I am pretty technical and not too noobish. However, I am not to knowledgeable when it comes to Nissans/Infinitis. Given this, here is my problem:

My g/f's roomate has an Infiniti I35 either a 2003 or 2004, ( I have yet to see the car up front, so I dont know the vin). The motor blew while driving on the highway. She towed it to a shop, and verified that it indeed can not be fixed.

With that being said, what is common for a stock motor like vq35de to just 'blowup' ? She said she changes her oil every few thousand miles, but has not done any extensive service to the motor.

Additionally, if she wants to put another used/newish motor in the car, what year vq35 would be able to swap? Would a JDM motor work?

Please help as we need some guidance here!

could be anything ... really.....
Most people don't watch the temp gauge and you blow a head gasket
OR
Timing chain too loose and it jumped a tooth on the crank
which may have affected the cam chains and they jumped a tooth and bent the valves
