Just curious about miles and parts failures. Chime in with mileage and only MAJOR repairs. I will go first almost 200k and timing chain done recently, 2nd owner and got tons of maintenance papers, nothing else internal ever done that I have records of, original rear end transmission(5 speed) and clutch. Original accessories , ac ps and alternator. I did hoses and belts a yr ago, all were Nissan and factory clamps so I think they were all original. Just wondering how many miles before some other major stuff may need to be done. got ticking lifters so i see that needs to be addressed but at almost 200k this puppy has given me 4 great care free yrs basically. Not worried about bushings belts and hoses those all wear over time and I know timing chain and adjusters are 150k-200k but what may be my next issue? OH and yes I know 200k on 21 yr old truck is not high mileage really LOL

Our 93 D21 has 233,000 on it but I went too long on a bad timing chain and now am rebuilding it.
A lesser mechanic could have just replaced the chain kit an it would still run. The oil pressure was ok but the bearings were down to the copper backing.
Did business with a man in Ventura Cal, he had 380,000 on his, blew some blue smoke and rattled on hot startup be he said it still passed Cal smog. Believe it was a 91 model.

The KA is a reliable engine well into old age. I don't think the KA has common internal problems for everyday driving use. To be on the safe side I would check the engine with both a vac gauge and a compression gauge, those will give an honest bill of health.

New here so howdy all, I am the original owner of a 1988 D21 Z24i. It has 330,000 miles on it. It's on it's third clutch. The first clutch repair actually was to change out a bad clutch disk the second was caused by needing to get in and repair the starter ring gear. The last clutch repair was caused by a faulty clutch release fork not the disk. At about 160,000 miles one of the timing chain guides wore out and the engine made a terrible noise. I replaced both guides, chain tensioner, chain and cam sprocket. The only thing that really needed replaced was the passenger side chain guide but I bought all the parts before I started so what are ya gonna do? As of this last month I've been doing curb side repairs consisting of head replacement and distributor replacement. That's the short story.

zack.

97 with ~233,000. Just replaced the timing chain, probably could have got away with just the guide and tensioner. Not sure if anything major was done before I purchased it 38,000 miles ago.

My 1988 NAPS-Z Z2.4 powered 5spd manual 2WD D21 has 147000 miles and still gets 30mpg on oversized tires, so I am actually getting better than 30mpg if you convert the speedo to have more mileage per fill-up.
The only things I have done is new OE heat ranged platinum NGK (qty8) spark plugs and new wires/distro cap and rotor. And rockauto.com had a sale on the FRAM Airhog cotton filters for like 2.50 each so I bought one with a recent order. Mad MPG. Just wish the truck was a king cab! Also A/C might be nice! haha.

My 1994 4x4 King Cab, manual transmission, 4 cyl engine I've owned since 1997, roughly 160K (not sure, the odometer failed was replaced under warranty early on). No major problems except A/C repair and the usual starter replacements etc., and she is going very strong. I love this vehicle.
