For the American palette, it's very hard to mess up white sauce, so pretty much any recipe you find online. This is what I do when cooking for friends.

The chicken, on the other hand, should be cooked over wood if possible. This is how you have it stand out from the dish instead of becoming strips of white sauce tasting matter.

The best Chicken Alfredo recipe involves a 20oz Porterhouse, baked potato, and asparagus all grilled over charcoal with some hickory chunks. Oh, and a 22-32oz beer. :dblthumb:

Go to a quality store (Whole Foods) and get some real healthy chicken (like organic, small farm raised). You'll notice the difference in taste and texture and that's important in a pasta dish where you are using a strong sauce (alfredo). Yes, I know it's expensive, but this is a special meal, so make it special. As far as the sauce goes.. find a recipe and try it out. But, also buy a bottle at the store... Taste test the stuff you made vs. the bottle and use whichever you like best. You should be able to make a much better home-made alfredo sauce, but in case you screw it up, you'll have the bottle to fall back on and you won't have to stress about it.
Make sure you round out the dinner as well.. A nice salad and some garlic bread go great with a pasta meal.
Get a bottle of wine as well.. Chardonnay would be a good choice.

Order online, go pick it up, plate it up, place in oven to keep warm, WRECK kitchen to give the appearance that you made it, strategically place candles throughout house, pop a bottle of white zinfandel, place warm plates on table with a couple candles in the center along with a bouquet of her favorite flowers. Enjoy some B-Day treats on her b-day.

Edit: Make sure she goes out with friends or is out of the house for the day in order for this to work.

Dang, jumping right in! Alfredo is one of the harder dishes to learn. It took me a while to perfect it but I used to make it for our friends in our apt complex in AZ a bunch, we'd take turns cooking while we worked on cars.
