So the wife, daughter and I went shopping last night and they spent $162.00 on bras at Victoria's secrets! I was like..$162.00 Dollars!!!! That's when she pulled out the big guns and said.. "Yeah,..how much did spend on your exhaust or your air thingy or your front bumper?" At that moment in time I new I had nothin' so I cut my losses and decided not to pursue it and shut up. Oh well, a man's got to do what a man's got to do. If mama's not happy ain't no ones happy!

Anyone else had any experiences like this?

LOL.. nope.. my wife bought my injen intake as part of my christmas gift, and she's buying my Eibach pro-kit springs when they come out... there are much worse things we all could be than car enthusiasts!

Rofl... I just remind my GF that i'l be keeping my car in excess of 5 years most likely. What article of clothing can she say will last her five year? Yea I usually win this kinda argument since she buys a new purse like once a month and you never see the old ones.

I've had the same discussion many times.

First of all, a little background, my wife does the house finances, we make financial decisions together, small stuff doesn't require a committee, but bigger ones do (Like Springs, Bumpers, Wheels, etc.). So, my stuff gets noticed easier than her or the girls clothing spending (I have 2 girls and a boy)

Here's how I handled it:

The first discussion I had with her involved a discussion on clothing, basically, for men (at least me) I spend very little each year on clothes .... i.e. 2-3 pairs of jeans, T-Shirts, $19 Sneakers.....basically, i'm really low maintenance, and when I buy something expensive (i.e. Rockport Shoes, I make them last for years) .... basically, take care of what I have rather than buy new on the slightest scuff...... If I spend more than $ 400-500 a year it's a good year.

So, upon discussions about car stuff, I mention to her that the car stuff is like clothing for her and the girls, men's idea of fashion/accessories are different than womens.....you get the point.

So, as expected, she argued a bit. So, I said, run a report out of Quicken on your clothing spend for 2007 for you and the two girls, we'll compare that to my car accessories and my clothing spend for the same period (including my boy).

Wouldn't you know that she and the girls still beat all of the mens stuff by a couple thousand $'s. Haven't heard about it since, now the disussion is about timing and when rather than how much......

I kinda got the cold shoulder when i bought the car. I went with the girl in may to test drive the car. So i went back to the dealer the following week without her and ordered the car, 3.5 fully loaded. For 3.5 months, nobody knew about the car besides me and the salesman. When i did finally get the car, everybody was excited for me but kinda shocked that i kept them out of the loop (fam, girl, etc)

So when she HEARD the exhaust (didn't tell her i was getting it) her reaction was "I thought you didn't want to modify this car???"

She says that because i bitched about my honda civic with full body kit (got smashed) and was lowered (scraped everything) including low profile tires (cracked rim on a bump in the road, rims were discontinued), and i had grape fruit shooters that farted out the back.

I got sick of that car.

So i had to justify my exhaust system LOL. She understands my relationship with my vehicles. The stillen exhaust is also very mild and smooth so it doesn't attract a lot of attention and you can still talk in the cabin

I hear you Mikey regarding the exhaust on the civic vs A/C. Its the engine. Mods to a 4 banger end up causing a LOT more noise than similar mods to a 6 banger. My guess is, when folks get an intake/exhaust setup for the 2.5, it will be noticably louder than the 3.5... but I could be wrong. Also, when I say louder, I don't necessarily mean "rice" loud, just louder in general. Even at stock, the 2.5 makes a noticably louder hum when revving at higher RPMs than does the 3.5. Whenever I get in my wife's car and take off, I temp freak out thinking something is wrong with the car. Then i remember its the 2.5 working hard, the 3.5 doesn't work nearly as hard to get up and go!

yes your absolutly correct. I believe we've even discussed this before, due mostly to cam timing and different firing patterns. I also believe that the smaller liter engine of my civic (1.6L) made significantly more noise due to high compression, VTEC, etc etc. then the 2.5L a/c.

I should have left my civic with just the cold air intake. It was ubelievably throaty. Sounded like 400 HP LOL. So yeah, what i'm saying is, the intakes i've heard for the 3.5 on you tube are extremely quiet compaired to the I-4 engines

so, I'm the wife and I justify my buying habit with car stuff! I love a fast, great looking car better than a new purse or expensive clothes, because of this my husband and I have a great relationship! ( I do drive the better car, haha ) I find that if I want a new exhaust or intake, all I need to do is order somethin for the tc. Women always know how to work a man to there advantage. I suggest getting your woman involved with the car, every girl likes a fast ride and a guy to go with:-)

Well I guess you and my wife are the exception. Don't get me wrong. When I said that my wife called me out on it I didn't mean that she grilled me and gave me crap about buying those items for the car. She just merely wanted to point out that she doesn't say anything about it when I do. In fact, she loves fast cars and bikes as well. Her rides is an Acura TL type S with a Greddy exhaust, and Injen CAI and she owns a CBR600RR. She's all about performance believe me! My friends are so jealous with me because on a beautiful day, it's my wife trying to kick me out of the house to go riding Totally the opposite of their situation. We also discuss things of what I'm getting or planning to get for any of my toys. We see it this way, as long as the bills are paid and there's food in the fridge, and I'm not spending money that was meant for either of those, it's all good!

This is awesome! Group commiseration! Buying the coupe required some of the hardest diplomatic sessions that I have ever had with my wife. She still cannot comprehend my reasoning behind always wanting the newest and coolest things and this car was no exception. Boys and their toys. The ONLY way I could satiate her say in the matter was to compromise with the 2.5 so that our mileage would be significantly better than the SUV we had before, a decision that haunts me to this very day :/

I'm always glad to hear a girl who has a love for a great car! Just traded my fj cruiser for my 3.5 coupe, gas price was my justification for my purchase. Went to walmart and saw the coupe in the parking lot and fell hard, got the hubby to nissan dealer and it was in the drive the next day! Miss the fj, but no regrets...

I get the same thing about my car, guns, and torches. Hey, I'm a big boy with big toys. I just bought an investment condo so I guess I'll have to ease off a bit.

One wife, two daughters for the past 20 years (one 20, the other 24). My wife doesn't question my car/bike purchases and I don't question her basket/clothes purchases.I do ***** when the shoe closet is so full it won't close and try not to think about the cost of the log jam...My $300 Crutchfield order arrived last week. The wife saw me carry it in, she asked what it was and said have fun... (we've been married for 28 yrs, guess we know our habits...)

Now that's a thing of beauty right there. My wife is pretty much the same way but I think it's when I questioned her spending is when she called me out on mine. Note to self!..Picka dn choose your battles!
