Ok, so this whats going on... Long long ago, I took it upon myself to change my brake pads... Now im not a very good mechanical person, I can take something apart, and put it back together (sometimes there are screws left over, sometimes I get lucky...) anywayz, the pad on the passenger side was worn diagnolly... so I assume that the piston is getting stuck... I've asked several people about this, and EVERYONE said... "Get the rebuild kit for the caliper" OKay, COOL!!! now... I called the dealership, and got on courtesyparts.com... and they both have a Caliper SEAL rebuild kit... is that what I'm looking for!? Like I said earlier, im not a big mechanical person, and I don't know how changing the seals would (if they do) affect the piston itself.... any input will be most appreciated....

It may not have been put back correctly originally. The thin plates between the caliper and the pads. if they weren't assembled correctly. then it could be old brake fluid, clogging the calliper. first put some mileage on these new pads and see what happens. thurough troubleshooting is important before spending money when you don't really need to.. be patient and monitor you car, they all give tell signs.process of illimination....

Ive had the pads in there a while now, and the brakes are shot.. I've been downshifting a lot more than id like to... Its getting new lines, already has a new brake cylinder, and its getting new rotors and pads, I am just trying to steer away from buying new calipers... I'd like to understand the fundamentals of calipers... I have no problem spending the 40 bucks on the seal kit, I just dont want to waste all that time and effort and have to buy calipers regardless... I'd rather get all the work done in one shot and so far the lines, rotors, and pads are on my shopping list, should calipers be on there too!? or can I get away with rebuilding mine!? and if so, where can I get this "caliper rebuilt kit" that everyone is talking about!?

Skyline brake upgrade is way over rated for the Z32.

Get the new seals and gaskets from the dealership or from Midway (forum sponsoring dealership who gives you a discount!) and rebuild them yourself. Will be a good learning experience and it isn't hard.

Acutally there are a lot of affordable options that make a big difference over stock.

- Replacing the blank stock rotors with brembo cross drilled and or slotted rotors. Use a good quality set of pads (EBC, Axxis, Hawk, etc). Replace the stock rubber brake lines with stainless braided lines. Flush the system and use a better quality brake fluid.

- There is also the option of using either the 3000GT VR4 rotors (a little under 13") or the 350Z track model rotors (a little over 13") with the caliper relocation kits available. With this setup you'd want to go with the items listed in the above paragraph but on top of that you'd have a larger diameter rotor for added leverage and heat dissipation

- Another upgrade that is very worthwhile is a brake master cylinder brace. It greatly firms up the pedal by restricting travel of the master cylinder. I noticed a huge difference.

If you want pictures or info on any of it don't hesitate to let me know.

i have the brake master cyclinder brace. and it works. great result in feel.mws motorsports sells the 3000gt kit. or one like it. and the biggest improvement wasn't the feel or stopping distance but consistance of the stopping distance. according to them...splparts sells sloted brmbo rotors for about 190 bucks. but even they say the stock size will not improve braking...just colling to reduce warpage and extends the life of the pads a little.

what i liked about the skyliine kit was it increased the width of the rotos. which will translate to a firmer feel.

do you any experiance with that skyline kit and did it yeild any real results or the mws kit?

I have 3000GT rotors on my car and it made a noticable difference in stopping versus the drilled and slotted brembo rotors that were stock size which I had before hand.

I have a friend who has the skyline setup on his Z32 and the stopping wasn't a whole ton better than stock.

I'm not sure to be honest. I haven't seen a "kit" offered in a few years that incorporates the VR4 rotors. What about that mws motorsports place you mentioned a few posts ago?
