After changing my pads and rotors recently I started having brake noise. I read on it a bit and realized I had not done a good job cleaning and removing grime and stuff. So, I got a new set of brake hardware for front brakes and got everything cleaned and lubed properly. I did one side fine, but passenger's side caliper's pin, one with rubber sleeve, will not go back in. It has new sleeve and got cleaned and lubed very well. I used a clamp to push it back in, but it reaches a certain point and won't budge, not enough to allow caliper to go in. I removed it and used old sleeve, but still. What's the problem?

The only thing I could think of that would prevent pin from going back in was the grease I placed in caliper, so I removed some and it finally went in, but I'm still puzzled. I'd think the extra would seep out, but it didn't.

Weird. Must have been some damn tight tolerance!

There must have been too much grease in there. Given the tight tolerance between the pin and the tube, the grease will get compressed to a certain point and without any venting, it will prevent the caliper pin from going in all the way. I learnt that when I did my first brake job....

That's good to know, but why are the pins different, lower one with a rubber sleeve and the upper without?
