the subject of rattling calipers has come up a few times now. i think it was RNQ mentioned bushings.are there replaceable components short of buying new calipers to correct this?

I didn't think the calipers had bushings. Could they be sleeved? Probably. But probably cheaper to get good condition used. I don't see any specs given in the FSM for pin clearances, so hard to make an objective call. Guess if you're certain the calipers are rattling, that's all you need to know.

No, they don't have bushings at least according to the parts manual - if I mentioned bushings I was thinking of my SAAB. You might replace the pins if they're worn.

Autozone has OEM front brake calipers for $50.99. I just priced them today

Yes, but those are rebuilt from someone else's worn-out core, so they are probably just as bad. Cheapie rebuilds are very unlikely to have sleeved guide pin bores.

ok thanks. i do think it's the calipers, as i hear it some of the time while hitting 'braille dots', but if i drag the brakes i've never heard it.

wifey's space odyssey is obnoxious on rattling calipers. i replaced the pins and they still rattle. only 71k.

i was thinking of an 'oversized' pin perhaps by powder coating. might be too thick, though. alternative might be some .001 or .002 shim stock shoved in the hole. whatcha think?

I think you want to keep the pins to a near-mirror finish so that they impart as little friction as possible. On that note, maybe some more grease packed in the boot might help.
