i am pretty sure if you keep everything in the engine bay looking stock, like the manifold, intake pipings, etc. And you must hide anything that can adjust your fuel and air electronically etc. Because if the cops sees it then they will (for sure) give you a ticket (only in California correct me if i am wrong). My friend got a ticket for $200.00 for having an apex fuel and air controller in his car and that suck.

The reason why you cannot have the air and fuel controller is because when you smog a car you can turn everything down so that it is low enough to pass smog and that is illegal in califonia

I got harrased by cops for not letting them look under the hood

The cop checked my VIN against my Registration and said that he had to check the VIN on the engine bay to make sure that I didn't have a stolen motor in the car. I told him no and he said that I couldn't keep him from looking because he had "Probable Cause" I told him bull**** Probable Cause in Washington State means the cop has to see something that is illegal and then he can search your car. (I won't lie I was a real d!ck to him because I knew I was right)

So he told me he was going to impound my car and arrest me for Resisting...long story short I called my brother (He's the Senior Sergeant at this guys Department) and he took care of everything. There was nothing illegal about my engine bay but I wasn't going to let him walk all over me and my constitutional rights.

Geez this topic has been covered soooo many times. In the end the responses are all the same. And no you cannot get your car impounded just for having an SR. If you're doing something else like racing then yes, he can impound it.

Even people who drive normal have gotten their hoods popped. There's no way of telling if you will or will not.

It depends on how the cop is, and if he's in a good mood or bad.

Besides that its just a gamble.

Noticed you were from stockton. Stockton isint to bad for driving around modified 240's. But avoid Elk grove and sunrise blvd in sac cause your asking to get yourself pulled over. Especially elk grove. Many of my friends in sac have been pulled over but a equally large amount has not. Every friend of mine that has been sent to the ref has never had their car towed. As long as you got up to date registration, insurance, no warrants on you then your ride shouldnt be impounded.

If your asian your running a larger risk of a cop asking you to pop your hood. As f***ed up as it is, it is the truth. Cops profile asians for modified cars.

Just keep your car oem style looking (no aftermarket body kits)keep ur wheels silver and not like red, green, white, etc. Have no visable gauges like gauge pods in ur car. Dont slam your car to the maxNo stickersHave a good running car that produces no smoke when driving aroundGet a oem looking exhaust and make sure its as silent as possible when your just cruising aroundKeep it a oem color. Dont get something bright and flashyDont drive like a d-bag. If you do rock a SR keep it as OEM looking as possible. Like maybe if you have a fmic, put rubber hoses around the piping so it looks oem, keep the oem intake box, keep the stock bov, etc. (you get the picture)

Do those and the chances of getting pulled over are a lot less likley to happen. But since we live in cali and choose to modify our cars its the risk we take to drive around modified cars.

what about military. I'm going into the navy and my car is legit in Alabama but there is a good chance that i could be stationed in cali what would be the rules for that. Being it's registered out of state would it be okay and they couldn't do anything. okay as i was writing this found this

Registration and Smog Laws

A car registered in another state that has no smog devices is legal to drive in California as long as it is equipped as required in the other state.

Vehicles are prohibited from emitting excessive exhaust and will be cited for air pollution, even if the car is registered in another state.

Also in my state your required to have a cat but no one checks so it would be legit as long as no one checks. Being it is legal in my state it would be legal in cali because my home state would still be Alabama not cali while I'm stationed there.
