I recently got a "fix it ticket" for illegal exhaust. Do I have to really put back on the stock exhaust or can I just put the resenator (spelling) back on? I don't think it is louder than 95 dba. The cop didn't even test it. Doing my search. You guys have really given me some good info. Want to keep my 3A Performance. Please advise. Yes, I'm a chick and sound like one to (lol)

im sorry, but (onecrazyfoo4u) it seems obsured to sell your 240 cuz you cant handle cali smog laws... im not gunna move to idaho so that i dont have to smog anything for my 240...

For the exhaust, fight it... show the "actual" written law to the judge and prove to him/her that you can have an aftermarket exhaust in cali... then prove to him/her that you car does not exceed 95db

and as for passing smog, SR can pass smog, but you need a good cat converter, and to add some emission to the SR... thats half of the test, there is also visual test and to pass that, color your valve cover black or white, spraypaint your piping black to look stock... and anything that stands out in the engine bay change it or spray it black... then there is always paying the smog guy a hundred or 2 to slip you the pass

if you really love you 240 like most of us on nico do, youll at least try to pass smog and fight the ticket

dude in failifornia almost everything has to be CARB legal. from an intake, headers, to a turbo. the smog laws straight up suck. but almost everyone with an import with aftermarket parts breaks those laws to keep their cars the way they like em. california has so many laws it forces us Cali people to break them.

California wants us to be a part of Team Glow; all show, no go.

i'd rather make my way around some smog laws than to be a part of them.

Kalifornai does it for the revenue that is the only reason .i watched an old documentary on the life of a street racer and they were giving people tickets for everything ,like cai not stock 100.00 fine exhaust 100.00 fine oh car lowered to below 18 inchs (headlight level) there's another fine .This is why scion has the buy our modified OEM parts from factory and California cant do shizz about it cause its from the factory .exhaust's lsd's super chargers and such .I will never move there .And if i go visit i will print the car laws that go with my car to have on hand and a video camera .enough said.

well since u live in califorinias capitol, of course they are going to be hard on you... up around LA there is little to no hassle with the cops... In LA imports are the last thing they need to worry about, like speeding...

i have yet to get a ticket, but be sure i will fight with my import law knowledge to get it revoked

Well you guys sure did bump my old thread! Just for future info, I'll add what happened on here. Ended up selling the car a month after I got the ticket no problem. It doesn't matter if there's a ticket on the record books, it goes with the driver not the car. So no problems there.

I ended up trying to fight the ticket, first by mailing in the forms and going back in forth for a month....nope they reject it. Don't give a reason, just say full fine still needs payed. So I go to court over it, nope still have to pay. So I just wasted a crap ton of my time and effort for nothing, still had to dish out $300 and then some. So don't waste your time trying to fight tickets in cali....with the way the economy is and how this state is crazy in debt, they're not letting anybody off. Just pay it and be done.

I sold the car because you have to go through a ridiculous amount of loopholes to get the thing legalized, why would I waste all my effort doing that? It's just flat out stupid. For the same price if getting it emission safe and 'hiding' everything that was illegal on the car, I just bought an rsx type s and can get a emissions safe turbo kit put on. Just stupid to try and fix everything to be worthy to drive in cali. I work on an AFB, so I can't screw around with illegall s*** like that.

I had an "illegal muffler" ticket before, it was $215. It didn't have a fix it option or anything, it was just pay this dollar amount. My way around it, I wrote a nice letter so whoever it concerns saying I was a college student (true), I was broke (true) and that a new OEM exhaust was $500 (false). I also stated, I traded my n1 duals for an OEM exhaust and I wouldn't be able to pay the fine because it was too much money.

To sell my story even more, I put a picture of the rear when I first got the car, 2 years before all this happened and some recent ones. I just switched the labels making it look like I had fixed the car. At the end of the day, the ticket was dropped and nothing went on my record.

NOTE: This story happened in CT.

Good luck.

i kno this is an old post but a week after i had put my exhaust on i got pulled over...it showed the same s*** on my ticket not fixable! So i went to chp after i put my stock exhaust on and the d!ck head told me i had to go to referee station...wtf...so i had to wait even longer b4 i could put my exhaust back on. Then i thought i could pay it off online but noo i had wait 3 hours for a judge to clear it...

it is not the CHP's, or courts job to teach you the laws. ignorance of the law is no excuse for not knowing. If your gonna modify your car, you better know what you can/cant do, and know what to do when someone says your illegal.i lived in oregon a while and i got 24 too loud/ too low tickets. each one of em, i was infront of the judge for 2 minutes and never did a single one pass. Any cop can say your ish is illegal. if you cant prove otherwise, its gonna stick. i watched a guy get a ticket for a stock muffler becouse he didnt do things right. With anything, street cars, races, guns, BBQing, you need to be educated on what the laws are. not so you can obey them, but so you can find the loop holes too make it look as legit as possible. A cat back exhoust on a s13 doesnt need a E O #. if its under 95db, your good. if a cop rights a ticket, its your job now to get proof to bring to court

Yup, you cannot use more than 30 briquettes of charcoal per 8 square feet, because it releases too much CO into the atmosphere.

Also, you can no longer use lighter fluid, as it releases too much vapors into the atmosphere.

and if your fire exceeds 550 F, it is considered a fire hazard, and you will be likely to be fined a gajillion dollars.
