california LEGAL exhaust upgrade..

Hey guys n gals,

Do any of you know of a nice sounding exhaust that i can put on my car that will be legal in CALI???

I have a 93 240sx coupe and it runs fantastic thanks to the advice from you guys here and from an ASE mechanic that helps me with my car.

Im just looking to add something that frees up a little back pressure and that will give me a nice little rumble.

any exhaust under.....91db?? is technically legal

any cop who doesnt like your exhaust will deem it illegal. no matter what the dB output is.

I'm not sure if this holds true for all of Greddy's exhausts, but I remember a few of their ads stating that their exhausts are dot legal and are all quieter than the legal sound decibel limit.

Something quiet and stock looking would also be a good choice, such as the RS*R exmag or Circuit Sports.

for the record if a cop chooses to ticket you for an exaust, just get dicumented proof that it is DOT legal from the company, or proof of the decibels (test it with a meter on camera or get an inspection place to do it) and it wont hold up in court.

My Apex'i N1Dual Cat-Back sounds great and just passed CA smog. I'v never been pulled over for its sound either. Also Apex sells a sound dampening thing you can put in it just incase. Plus that sound thingy adds a couple hp/tourqe from the added backpressure.

The N1Dual has a nice sound and the dual pipes allow more air flow without sacrificing backpressure which gives your Naturally Asperated engine its power. I think its goes from a 3" pipe to two 2.5" pipes. nice muffler too. I noticed a huge difference in acceleration in my (automatic) car after I put it in (with an intake too).

if they don't test it with a meter, it would be pretty hard to make stand anyway. they have to prove you are guilty, not the other way around if you choose to fight it.
