Has anyone been pulled over for their window tint, and if so, how much is the ticket?

I got my car tinted yesterday, impulse buy...

35% front 17% for rest. Couldn't help but smile about how dark it came out looking, but now Im wondering if it just might be TOO dark. *Scared of cops*

Im thinking I might as well leave it and just take off the front if I ever get pulled over.

As long as you 'fix it'... the ticket is only 10 bucks at the courthouse.

Pull down your front windows each time you see the police.

I have 28% metallic tint all around... haven't been pulled over yet.. I don't know if tint is an offense they can pull you over for by itself ( it may be, i don't know)... but then again, all a cop has to say is that you looked suspicous, and they can pull you over (whether it holds up in court is another thing) anyway, if anything else is worng (following too closely, seat belt, talking on phone, busted tail light, etc. they can definately tack on the tint fine just to be a bit extra on the ******* scale)

They can pull you over just for tint. As for rolling your windows down when you see a cop, good luck with that when it starts raining (except for you in San Diego...because it NEVER rains there!

Yes they can pull you over just for tint. It is a fix it ticket, and the easiest way to get around that is to know a cop. You can get any police officer to sign off on your fix it ticket and the fine is like $10. But if you dont fix it or get it signed, then they charge like 120 for the first offence and start doubleing it for each additional offence. I got mine tinted like 3 months ago and I havent gotten a ticket yet for my windows. What percent tint did you get in the front?

I got 35% on the front side windows

doesnt look so dark in the sun, but at night it looks just as dark as the 17% on the back.

also, i'll post pictures later of the rear window. Im thinking it needs to be redone. Maybe im just a scrub but i dont think its done right. I tried telling them others have had trouble tinting it and they just brushed it off with "we have lifetime warranty blah blah"

I have 5% all around. I have been asked about it before, but never written for it. Just roll your windows down as often as possible, and ALWAYS roll your windows down/turn on your interior lights when you get pulled, to let the police know your not hostile. They will thoroughly appreciate that, and usually not even write you for anything.

Rain is god spitting at us because he doesnt like our cars looking better than his.

I have 5% in the back and 20% in the front and ive never been written up for it. Another good way to make cops happy if you get rolled. Slowly put your hands out the window with your palms open and keep them here he can see them untill he gets to the car. I had a cop thank me for that the other day and let me out of a 92 mph speeding ticket. or just keep them up high on the stearing wheel.

Im pretty sure this is a sign of a bad tint job:

the sad part is that the "hard part" at the top with the dot matrix came out perfect.

I have had limo tint on every vehicle I've ever owned. I got pulled over twice in my Titan for it. Now, with that being said, my Titan had ALOT of modifications that were far more eye catching and illegal than just the window tint.

One thing to keep in mind is that your first ticket is only a 10 dollar fix it ticket. However your second ticket becomes a point on your license.

As far as rolling down your windows when you see a cop. I wouldn't do that because if the cop sees you doing it, 9 times out of 10 they take that as a sign of "yes, I know that my window's are illegal and I am trying to hide them from you." At least that's what all the cops I've talked to have told me. Just keep them up and take the risk.

Also, cities to stay away from in the Orange County area (if you're ever in the area) include: Huntington Beach, Irvine, and Newport Beach. Unfortunately I live in Irvine and Newport...Those two cities have the most strict cops when it comes to window tint.

Yea, I kinda figured lowering my window right in front of them would be a bad idea. Im just gonna keep the tint and see how long I last =) If I get the ticket then the fronts are coming off, I much rather avoid a point on my license!

I live in the San Fernando valley area, so theres a bunch of ghetto cars with limo tint around for cops to have fun with. Mostly, they don't care around here. I'll be careful when I go to the OC area tho

I have always hated tint laws. I just want to go on record saying they are BS. Here in WV the law is 35% all around with 5" down the front glass except for vans, suv, and trucks can have the back glasses as dark as they want. So if tint laws are to protect the police from like possiblely getting shot why is it illegal for a car and not for a van or suv where you can be hiding a whole gang locked and loaded or a 50 cal mounted on a tripod. Just makes no sence to me. Fortunatly I know a lot of the officer in WV and I do roll down my windows, turn on the interior lights and open the sun roof when I get pulled over.

Lol, do what you want. I've been pulled over multiple times by, county, city, CHP, and military base police officers. I have also gotten multiple compliments that they appreciated the gesture of rolling down the windows and turning on the interior lights so they could see everything in the car. One of the biggest things a police officer fears on the job, is to be shot by a masked criminal inside a blacked out car. Ive heard it many times from many people.

Im not saying I wouldnt roll down windows and turn on the lights if I get pulled over. Just that if im not pulled over and don't notice a cop has been next to me a while im not going to just roll down my windows and raise suspicions. Ill just start praying he moves on lol. But during the day I leave my windows open a lot of the time anyway, I like the breeze

Same thought.

That actually happened to my gf the other day. She always thought if you rolled the window down... they'll be happy to see your face and move on. Well she did it to one cop and he pulled her over. He told her, "I saw your tint and I was just gonna pass you by, but when you rolled your window down I had to stop you. You think I'm stupid? You think you'ld fool me?"

Whenever I see a cop I open the sunroof shade to let some light in and hopefully the tint looks lighter but I don't roll my windows down.

However, I do agree with what Blake said regarding ONCE you actually get pulled over. I always roll my windows down and put my hands on the steering wheel at 10 and 2. And call them 'sir'.

Whenever I get pulled over I roll ALL the windows down, turn on the interior lights and remove the keys and put them on the dashboard right above the gauge cluster. I also keep my hands on the steering wheel. Most of the time the cops appreciate this gesture and let me go.
