You can have as many "evil" features you want on an AR in California so long as you have a "non-removable" magazine according to California law. You can go 1 of 2 ways with it. You can get the "Bullet Button" or you can get the "Prince 50" California law stipulates that you have to use a tool to remove the magazine. In the case of the bullet button, its a .223 dummy round on a lanyard you clip to your belt because the dummy round is a tool by definition in the California code. Good place to read up on it is right here

Recent story about a guy who got pissed off at another driver noticed a colt sticker on the back of the car infront of him and called the cops saying he pulled a gun and flashed it out the window at him. Cops pull guy over no gun found in car and they searched the side of the road for 2 days. Carrying a pink pistol might not be a bad idea.
