While checking the model ID info on my '98 Q, I found that it is the Cali model with the "EVA" designation. I was surprised as the car was purchased new from a New York Infinity dealer. A couple of questions for those in the know:

1. Unless it was a "take what you can get" situation for the NY dealership, how did they come by a Cali Car rather that the "EUA" Federal model?

2. What are the implications of the cali system for performance?

3. Most importantly, what additional maintenance procedures are necessary? (I did find the "EVAP" section in the FSM: check lines and pressure relief valve.)

1. Its not uncommon. My previous Q was sold in FLORIDA and it was a CA model... SEen a lot of CA models sold throughout the country.2. There really isnt much difference at all, i even doubt that theyres any measureable difference. its mainly for emissions3. None

Thanks Wes! Your info provides great comfort. I was near melt-down trying to figure out how to break the news to the Iron Swede that I would be immediately ordering new OEM purge canister gaskets/valves and a 55 gallon drum of fume relief fluid to flush the system.

A lot of CA model cars found there way to NY, especially NYC, because of NY emissions laws.

That makes sense, Max. You and the other regulars on this board are a major reason why I am more thrilled with my Q today than I was the day I bought it.

Back in the old days the Cali cars had less horse, now I'm dating myself here but my 77' Celica has 105hp and the federal model had 110. We had Cats, smog pumps and god knows what else. Today the horse is the same and not sure that you would notice any difference. If anything a CA car would mean no salt on the roads and overall better car care than the rest of the courty (save south florida), of course that is my opinion.
