Hey all. I'm completely new here, so i'll start with a bit about me. I recently bought a stock 90 240sx SOHC in the San Francisco area while i was up there working awhile. PRETTY sure it's a cali car, but i'm not positive as i haven't been able to find any good sights that will help me decipher the VIN or engine codes. I don't even know if the car has LSD either. ANYWAY. I love the car. I had an 87 supra turbo before this one (which is still sitting in my yard motorless at the moment). Yes, i have a thing for RWD. And drifting. I've been a drift fanatic for years now.

Anyway, here's what i'm wanting to know. If it IS a CA car, what, if anything, can i safely remove as far as emissions restrictions on the car? I live in east TX, and we have no emissions testing or smog testing whatsoever out here, so i could *cough* run straight pipe if i really wanted to. The car is completely stock, and i'm just getting started on it, so i figured removing any flow restrictions would be a good start.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! This is all temporary as, once i get back to work and then have some time, i plan on putting a DOHC motor in.

Thanks, Tattoo

good luck i know that here in nh they just passed law april first stateing that any car 82-95 has a visual check to make sure emissions is there for inspection. anything never then 95 has to pass smog test. so it all depends on your laws and how you feel about clean air.

CA cars will have the EGR EGT. Look for that on your intake manifold and that'll tell you if it's got CA emissions or not.

That's correct. It's the same thing in Houston. I lived in Houston all my life, and always had to have my cars tested (at least, until i made friends with a few inspectors)

But yes, out here in BFE, they don't mess with all that. In a town who's population is less than 200, guess they aren't too worried about clean air. hehe

Anyone got any advice on removal?
