Not for rain alone. You would at the least have to submerge most of the filter before it begins sucking water in amounts large enough to damage the motor. Rain drops will do nothing. It will hit the filter element and perhaps absorb into it and be evaporated slowly. And even if a drop or two makes it's way into the intake tract, it will likely be evaporated during the compression. Water in very small amounts will not hurt a motor. And in some cases, it will help the motor. (Water injection). What damages motor is when water gets sucked up like when you are drinking through a straw, and more water enters the combustion shamber than the available space when the piston is at TDC. Liquids do not compress. Small amounts will not cause the motor to lock up and most of it will probably be evaporated under the heat and pressure of compression.

Its not rocket science. Just avoid submerging the filter in water.

I'll sell you my cai extention !!! After driving it 60 miles in the pooring rain ( 3 miles in some 6+inch flooding) i can confirm that water will not get in the motor enough to cause a problem.
