So I was thinking about cutting the plastic cadding underneath where my injen cai filter sits. I think I'm gonna slice it and fold the plastic out towrds the ground to create a louver(like a little scoop) to help force cooler air up into where the filter sits. I'm know that because it sits directly behind the radiator it's sucking in hot air so if I put a few of these little scoops in it should force cooler air in. My only concern is water getting up into the engine conpartment. So I'm wondering what everyone thinks about my idea. All input will be apreciated.

That's kind of a risky one if u git a heavy foot when it rains. May i make a suggestion? Put aluminum screen where u cut the holes in the plastic to keep pebbles and other stuff from peircing ur filter and any large rain particles will be atomized and reduce the risk of hydro lock. I know cuz i did something similar with my quarter panel running aluminum 4 n a half inch duct up to my shirt ram and just set like 5 screens in the pipe to tear raindrops to shreds...

Good idea. Props!

I did something similar... I just cut out the whole area... my pics are in this thread:

I may install a square piece of furnace filtering to reduce the risk of hydrolock, but for now I'm ok with it being open, and by considering the opinions stated in the supplied link I've concluded that even with the underbody protection area open I don't run any serious risks of hydrolock, as I don't ever drive through 1 foot + deep water.

I'll either do up a square piece of the furnace filtering or I'll install a bypass filter.

Mods, sorry about that link... delete it if you really want to, I'll refrain from that I guess ...

Um, my CAI sounds and performs fine... quite throaty at 2000-4000 and then at 5000 and up it inhales with a very smooth yet powerful sound.. I have a small filter on it though... I've heard that if I put the larger size unit on there it'll sound even throatier.

It's so ghetto but dang it, it works great. :p

When I do a "better" slightly less ghetto cai on the GLE I'll probably do what you did to the underbody protection panel.

As a general rule, NICO frowns upon cross-forum linking for a variety of reasons. The NICO/org relationship is a unique one, though, as we're both well established so rather than gaining/loosing members between forums, most of us are members at both. Still, we value local content and want to support our own members more than others for obvious reasons. Certainly if someone has a question or wants to find information, we'd prefer that they be able to find it here rather than being linked anywhere else (the org or otherwise). We want to be the resource, not the index.

The main concern is that we like to have everything here local so we can make sure it stays intact (sometimes off-site linked articles will have images disappear, or will just disappear themselves over time).

Not so much as an act against cross-forum linking as a "we'd like it here, too":Would you mind writing up a copy of that how-to for hosting here on NICO? We can host the pictures more reliably than photobucket and the like, and your writeup will get a link in our articles library.Plus, as always, writing an article for NICO earns you a custom title to go beneath your username.

As for the subject of the thread:The CAI looks good. Keep us updated on how it works out.
