Has anyone attempted/succeded in cutting a access hole through the metal below the factory air box and running a intake pipe through the hole. The filter would be in that empty space between the bumper/fender/and wheelwell. LMK what you all think or if this has been done. I got this idea from a 01 mustang that my friend has. It makes the filter harder to get to but keeps it from the engine bay heat. You could also incorporate a bypass within the original spot to prevent hydro lock. Any suggestions welcome, good or bad, won't hurt my feelings. Just need ideas............Thanks

First Welcome to NICO, you've found a GREAT resource for your Q, spend some time searching through and reading some of the older threads, alot of your initial questions have been discussed at length .

Here's a few threads about CAIhttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=130805http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=129318http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=141067

In short some like creating a better flow for the airbox, with some hose fromt he front, others feel it just creates noise.

You're more likely to see performance gains once you make sure the knock sensors, o2 sensors, injectors and fuel delivery system is all up to par.

Appreciate the help, I did use the search option, guess I wasn't using the right words. I'll keep tooling around and see what else I can find. Those links were really helpful, thanks for taking the time to post them.

I actually did this two summers ago in order to install my HID's. I am really satisfied with it. As much as everyone says that the Q45's intake is already perfect, I still noticed a difference and believe it was worth it. However, I have a 97 Q, which some people don't believe to even be a real Q45.

Yeah I get that alot too, people saying it should be the Q41. But I'm still considering the intake change. I think the current setup is great, but I'm one who likes to dabble in mods. Appreciate the info.

Infiniti made the G50 until like 2000 in Japan. I guess that is why some people weren't impressed with the 97-01 US Q.

I've done it. SEARCH my postings and you'll see it! I had it for few weeks and ditched it in favor of stock air box. Not that I didn't like the sound and "fake" gain of power, I "really" liked loss of MPG. If you want to make one it is realy easy to do. Cheers!

I'm sorry to anyone this might offend, but anyone who still doesn't believe that the CAI I have installed doesn't work is suffering from denial because they can't get their own set-up to work. It was funny when Terry and I first had them installed. We actually had dyno sheets to proove its success and people still didn't believe us! Here is the link to that thread:

This is a shot of the filter from the vents in the front left wheel well.

If you can get a setup like this I know it will Work!

I can't tell from your photos, but what did you do with the sensor that plugs into the factory intake above the radiator?

Might want to search for tgvince's post on his CAI for the VH41DE, which is basically what Zinkie13 has. tg did have dynamometer readings for his.

The plug goes into the pipe right behind the ninety degree turn before it goes down into the bumper area. It's basically about 6 inches before the MAF. If you look closely on the second picture you can see the wire going to it.
