Hello, my 95 Q45 is a little loud than I would like at 750 rpm in park.Seem like most of the noise is from the engine. But when shift into gearmake a little more noise from under. It is louder than my 95 Altima, onlyfrom inside the cabin. From outside, the Q45 is much more quite than AltimaI just expected the Q45 to be more quite than 225,xxx miles Altima. Also Ithink I can hear the fuel pump when about to crank, is it normal to be thatloud?

thanks

Measure the amount of noise accurately with a sound pressure level meter or/and acoustic spectrum analyser as the magazine do and compare scientifically.Because adults have a different hearing sensitivity for loudness and frequency contour ...........perceived loudness must be specified as the frequency and DBSPL to be meaningful or comparable.

Increases in sound level usually come from owner abuse in that they have failed to maintain to standard or allowed marginal components to remain in service beyond the quiet useful life.

You can purchase an inexpensive SPL meter from Radio Shack and use it to provide microphone for this free software on a laptop so we can accurately understand what you are complaining about -- as noise.http://www.qsl.net/dl4yhf/spectra1.html[/U]http://www.radioshack.com/prod...03667h ... x.....html

Unfortunately the inexpensive meters only read down to 50 dbspl

My Q is on fuel pump number 3 and none totally failed just became noisey.

Idler pulley bearings, fan blade cracks, injectors, hla, are a few of the get loud items besides fuel pumps.

Engine noise is probably an exhaust leak or something.

Replace your fuel pump stat. If you can hear it, it needs replacing.

If you turn the ignition to the ON position (don't start the engine) you'll hear the fuel pump pressurizing the system for a few seconds and then stop. This is normal.

With the engine at idle, if you open the trunk lid and can hear the fuel pump (buzzing bees) it's time to replace it before it takes out an even more expensive component- the fuel pump control unit (FPCU).
