What is the purpose of the Cabin air filter on 2005 Max & when should it be replaced?

A cabin air filter is designed to remove particles out of the air before they reach the inside of the cabin (aka where you are sitting). It helps to make the air inside your car better to breathe, as it is filtering out all the stuff that flies into the car.

As a general rule of thumb, they should be replaced every 15k miles.

If Im understanding this correctly, if I drive with the windows down all the time then changing this filter is useless..because stuff will just come in through the windows anyways ?

Also, this filter has nothing to do with the preformance of the car ?

you don't need to change it but in the winter you'll be using the blower and that's when outside air goes through it, and any other time you put the fan on.

nothing to do with the car performing unless...it gets so dirty it's not leting almost any air through - might fry the blower.

if the cabin air filter was clogged, would it affect the amount of heat I get in the cabin ?

Is there any other alternative besides the OEM filter?
