I did a search and couldn't really find anything on this. I'm assuming the filter would be right behind the glove compartment. I've taken that off so far, but I have no idea where the air filter would be or even what it looks like! haha. I looked at Wes's right up on cleaning the condensor and saw that the area behind the g50 glove compartment looks nothing like the y33. There is a ton of other stuff behind mine! If anyone knows how to do this please help! Thanks

The 99'Q FSM has it on pages HA-110 and HA-111. I don' t have a 97'Q FSM.

Hope this helps.

Been posted in Infiniti Mechanic at least twice.

Drop the passenger under dash cover (careful of clips and wiring).

Drop reinforcement bar.

Remove glove compartment.

Remove retaining clips and replace filter with new ones from Joe.

Reverse process.

How long have you owned the car? Air filters should be done every year, at least.

We've had it since it was new. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been replaced at least since I've been driving it. I don't use the climate control much though.

I guess what I'm not seeing in the retaining clips. I see a big black box and then a white one. I'm guessing the white one is the blower and maybe the black is where the filter is? There just isn't anything clipped in.

Alright I found em. I'm a dumbass. Now I just need to get some new ones! Is there a condensor that needs to be cleaned as well?

The condensor is exterior in front of the radiator, and is always a good idea to clean it, the space between it and the radiator, and the radiator annually with compressed air.

The evaporator is inside, and I think the HVAC has air running through it continuously, even when off. This is so the cabin is always pressurized and won't suck in exhaust. So my recommendation is not to use the car without the filters, even if HVAC is switched off.

How did the filters look? An annual change will convince you of the frequency needed to replace them. Just like the engine air filter.

With the new ones, you should notice a cleaner air, more fresh, no odor.

How much was the filter? Only a dealer thing?

As I recall, from Joe they're like $25 bucks for both (there are two that are stacked together).

Yeah they are about 30 from Joe. I didn't have time to wait and was driving through indy yesterday so I picked them up at Dreyer and Reinbold for about 50.

Well, the important thing is you replaced them.

Now go order extra ones from Joe (air, fuel, and cabin) so you have them on hand for the next time in a year, and you will probably save yourself some money on price increases also.

Why in gods name did Nissan put it in such a stupid place??? Couldn't you just have put it somewhere that it was as easy as changing the air filter under the hood at the very least??? I just had mine done and my mechanic said it was VERY dirty.

Joe is the parts manager at one of our prime sponsors:

Do read the previous posts.

AS to the location, it is really not that bad for an annual replacement.

Speaking of the fuel filter....Something tells me that hasn't been replaced either. Is that relatively easy?

Yea, it's under the car in front of the passenger rear wheel. There is a metal bracket held on by I believe 3 10mm bolts. Remove that and you will be able to get at it.

You might want to relieve fuel pressure before you do it.

All the above and a lift makes it so much easier.

By the way, the VH45DE and VH41DE have different filters that look essentially identical on the exterior.

No HVAC filter until 1997, why you must use AC coil spray cleaner [thru the fan speed controller port] and homemade tools and tiny vacuum nozzle, TINY water hose, extensions, etc ...to do the job of cleaning evaporator.

Should be done every year [or two depending on location] if you expect as BRAND NEW AC Performance................my guess is it could decline 3-5% per year......roughly 0.5-1F per year lost in differential cooling temp.

You should see the dirt on a 7 year old evaporator [used in Atlanta- caked pollen].

To be effective such a filter should work down to at least 20 um and not restrict air flow too much.

I still have oem evaporator 16.3 years after manufacture, lack of internal [changing oil/dryer] and external maintenance surely results in expensive replacements.

Unfortunately the dirt builds from the rear bottom forward so you cannot see it thru the opening..........just assume it is there.

This is how I like to clean the evaporator.

Get a small vacuum hose and suck out all the leaves and grass that is sitting on the bottom. Then spray some water in there and using a soft or medium bristle tooth brush you can clean the evap pretty good without bending the fins.
