I came across this post describing how to access the switch lever that changes from fresh air to recycled air:

fresh-recycled-air-control-stuck-intake ... 32278.html

When I got my dash open, I found out that the switch and mechanisms are okay. The problem lies deep in the dash - with the diverter itself. I found a throttle-style cable (connected to the lever) that goes deeper into the dash, towards the driver's side, in the direction of the firewall. It disappears into no-man's land back there.

The lever just moves back and forth with little resistance and you can hear the sound of something broken deep in the dash. I'd hate to take it to a mechanic for a job that may take a lot of labor, but whose parts bill is relatively low.

Currently, the valve/diverter is stuck in the "fresh air" position, while the lever in the dash moves freely.

Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, what's the fix?

If you know of any images with exploded views of the dash, that would help also.

Thanks!

UPDATE:

I came across this page while looking for exploded views of the HVAC system:

As best as I can figure, I need either all or a certain combination of items 4 through 9.

Next step: research access/replacement of the blower motor assembly, thereby accessing the fresh/recycled air mechanism.
