You need to remove the glove box (carefully he said, it's held in by countless clips and screws) and then unscrew said panel. He said if you try to force the glove box out, you'll break it.
He said it's 80 bucks to replace it, and it should be done at about 12,000-15,000 k miles (about a year...)
He also said Nissan's are great, so long as you keep up with the regularly scheduled maintenance.
I asked him if I should take it to the dealer to get an oil change, he said you don't have to... while the car *is* new, it's the same engine they've used for years in the Sentra.
He said just keep documentation, so if any problems arise and you need to bring it in because your engine exploded, they'll be able to track your oil changes to see if someone seriously messed something up.
In-cabin microfilters from Nissan are only about $30 for the filter, the other $50 must be in labor.
They are very easy to replace, and usually no tools are required. I know that in the Sentra, there are two clips inside the glovebox (one on each side) to remove it. Once the glovebox is removed, there is a plastic cover that you remove (again, two clips, no tools required) to get to the filter. It's as easy as changing your airbox filter under the hood.
I change mine every 15k, but that's probably overkill. Ofcourse, it depends where you live too. If you live in a dusty environment, it will get dirtier quicker. As far as the Versa using the same engine as the Sentra, that is false information. The 2007 Versa uses an all new MR18DE engine. The sentra's 1.8L is a QG18DE. Same size, but different engine.
