Does anyone know how to replace the air cabin filter, or where it even is? I know it's going to be a little while before it needs to be replaced, but I'd rather do it myself.

Not to sound snooty, but have you checked the manual?I seem to remember seeing something in the maintenance section about replacing the cabin air filter, but I don't have my manual here, so I can't check it.

I did check my manual, and can't find an item about how to replace it. Somewhere inside it mentions the manual, and says it must be replaced by a Nissan dealer. But obviously, I'm looking for a way around that.

So who's going to buy the first factory service manual (and let the rest of us copy it).

The manual says take it to the dealer...FSM FTW

I see Nissan will soon sell the Versa service manual, in CD and print form, for around $200 and $300, respectively.

If anyone is interested, we can combine our buying power to get a CD, which we can "share" with each other.

I mean if ten people are in, that's only $20 a pop. And if 20 people want in, well... you get the idea!

Well I spoke to a service tech at nissan about the filter question. The filter is located under a small flap, up inside the glove box.

You need to remove the glove box (carefully he said, it's held in by countless clips and screws) and then unscrew said panel. He said if you try to force the glove box out, you'll break it.

He said it's 80 bucks to replace it, and it should be done at about 12,000-15,000 k miles (about a year...)

He also said Nissan's are great, so long as you keep up with the regularly scheduled maintenance.

I asked him if I should take it to the dealer to get an oil change, he said you don't have to... while the car *is* new, it's the same engine they've used for years in the Sentra.

He said just keep documentation, so if any problems arise and you need to bring it in because your engine exploded, they'll be able to track your oil changes to see if someone seriously messed something up.

Am I missing something here or is that like an idiotic place to put an air filter that needs to be replaced every 12 months?? You would think that it would be in a readily accessible place!!

go to http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissan/

Get a one day subscription & download the whole manual. Everything is pdf.

They don't have the Versa yet, so wait until you do.

Put me down for the Service Manual pool also.If anyone hears that it's become available, be sure to post here so we can look for it in other places. I've got several resources for 'obtaining' technical manuals, including some auto-related stuff. That's how I got the SM for my '95 Civic. It's in PDF form and looks great. I had it printed at a local copy shop and bound it in a large 3-ring binder, with a custom cover and index.I would be willing to do something similar with the Versa if anyone's interested.

In-cabin microfilters from Nissan are only about $30 for the filter, the other $50 must be in labor.

They are very easy to replace, and usually no tools are required. I know that in the Sentra, there are two clips inside the glovebox (one on each side) to remove it. Once the glovebox is removed, there is a plastic cover that you remove (again, two clips, no tools required) to get to the filter. It's as easy as changing your airbox filter under the hood.

I change mine every 15k, but that's probably overkill. Ofcourse, it depends where you live too. If you live in a dusty environment, it will get dirtier quicker. As far as the Versa using the same engine as the Sentra, that is false information. The 2007 Versa uses an all new MR18DE engine. The sentra's 1.8L is a QG18DE. Same size, but different engine.

I could be wrong about this, but I believe there is a second cabin air filter back in the cargo area, attached to the right (passenger) side. At least that's what the salesman told me that box thing was back there.

That's why I attributed the comment to him... I said: he said it was the same engine they've used for years in the Sentra. He may have been talking about layout, but who knows?

Have you all searched on the http://www.courtesyparts.com page? I'm assuming that this may be similar to the Sentra, but they have installation instructions for all the in cabin microfilters. Worth a look I guess.
