When i get my CA, it will be out and it will be very convinient to tear down, and possibly bore and rebuild with some forged 84mm pistons.

My question is, what would be the total added expense to do this? I can (or i hope i can at least) tear the block down and put it back together, but what does it cost to have the needed machining done? It was like 35 bucks for my dirt bike, thats one cylinder at a bike shop. I'm budgeting 500 for the pistons. ARP studs and a good headgasket would really float my boat too.

Any $$ insights on this? Thanks guys.

3000 bucks? To bore/hone the block to fit the new forged pistons? that sounds painfull.

seriously, couldnt i just bore, install pistons, reassemble, arp stud, and head gasket it? Or do i need to do a lot of balancing/blueprinting type work. If i didnt do internal work, my goals are about 300-350whp. If i did build it, i would like to lay down 500, just to do it.

How much crap do i really have to do to get 1.9 liters and forged pistons?

pistons can run anywhere from 450-1000...boring out really should be more then 50 bucks...i know here in town i can get mine done for 30. so you do the match...oh and a rebuild kit goes from 100 some places to add that in too...you can have it all done under 600

Actually I was referring to a full rebuild! Why half step? I fyou're going to go as far as screw with the stock bore just to say you have a 1.9, then you may as well go all the way. Just like "Jon" says, may as well leave the stock bore alone and put in some forged pistons... I did and it works just fine. The more the meat on the cylinder walls, the more abuse it can take and I do a good job of abusing mine.

it has cost me about $5000 for all the parts i have listed in my signature, and yes i am still buying parts, thank god i am getting all the machine/assembly and tunning free (well a trade for a couple websites) other wise i'll be in **** street.

it gets very pricey when you start to mess with bore & stroke, pistons crank, stand alones, big turbos etc...

BIG BOYZ TOYZ.

The displacement would be nice, but what i'd really be after is the neweness i would get from new pistons, rings, and a little bore. Most likely, my engine will have fine compression and i'l just slide her in and fix it when i manage to break it.

I was thinking it could be as simple as boring, the ~100 rebuild kit, pistons, and assembling it myself. I guess my question is, there isnt anything else i would have to worry about right? I dont really care if it punches out to 1.9 or 1.84 or whatever, i just want a strong piston and great compression. No ring gap, or oil leaking/burning or anything like that. I want my CA to run really, but really well. Its gotta be smooth, reliable, and i want a big redline. But i'm on a limited budget so purchases need to be very cost effective. I can't waste money, its gotta be done right the first time.

My plan of action is to aquire a CA18DET asap, and buy the rest of the swap parts (Fmic, exhaust and junk) as i can. I dont know if i'll go SDS management or a Front clip and run it stock for a while. a 900 dollar motorset+SDS system is looking pretty nice, but a 1500 dollar clip comes with everything i need to run. But then i dont have a standalone. Price difference between Motorset and Clip comes really close to paying for an SDS system.

I just want to get 300whp fully reliably, with a huge redline, as cheaply and quickly as i can.

Quote »cheaply[/quote] Becareful with that word and the CA18DET. Since CA's are prototypes for the RB series motors, they are just as expensive and can cost a bundle when you're speaking of performance. Take the cheap way into the performance ring and you'll get got in the end.

Do what I'm gonna do. I just got a clip from Venus. I'm getting all my other goodies, but not really touching the motor. After I get it installed I'm going to buy a long block and rebuild that while I'm driving this one. I've got alot of other stuff that I want to do to the car besides the motor. But right now the current motor is on it's last leg and I didn't have a whole lot of choice. Just as you said, if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time. But doing it right is going to cost money and take time. Have some patience and it will reward you in the end.
