Found one for sale locally for $300, supposedly been out of the front clip six months, Thinking about picking it up for spare parts if nothing else. What do you guys think? worthwhile endeavor?

Nope. I don't think the block is set up for oil squirters, or has the girdle. The intake is different and the head isn't the same. I also think the rods are weaker and I don't think the pistons are the same either. You'd basically be buying it for the crank.

wow, you're like a ca encyclopia aren't you. I did some home work on all that after you posted, and you're absolutley right. Too bad I don't have an s12 i could drop it in. It would make a nice cheap little project. Oh well, thanks!

don't waste your money......good engine...but weak when it comes to squeezing more power out of it. The rods are like noodles. I've had 2....original that came in my s12...made it to 240k miles. That one crapped out..got remanufactured one.....it lasted 12k miles before bending a rod....oh, and it dyno'd at 155whp @ 13 psi on a t25g. Bent the rod about a week after that.

are the CAS and coil packs the same?

no...it's got a distributor and plug wires. The CAS is inside the distributor
