Why did you start a new thread? I am going to merge this thread with your old one because the topic is the same "Your car doesn't run". As for the ecu, I believe that is a RWD unit. The FWD/AWD CA ecu's are bit diferent in pin-outs, but can be changed over. Again, ecu 78 sounds like aFWD/AWD unit.

last night i ordered an ecu with the number 98. i am just not sure. the entire harness is fine and everything is there for the motor to run. last time i started it, the car was running so rich that it was burning our eyes. it was running as if it had no MAF.

so i opened up my old ecu today. easily noticable that it has been tampered with... both covers are held on only by two screws. inside the suspended circuit board was also held on by only two screws. i lifted that and pulled out the removable chip under it. all looked good until i saw that one pin was way too short.. and on the adapting plate you can see where it was like shorting out... i am thinking that is the problem.

here is the chip... the really shinny pin is the short one. looks like someone tried to re solder it back on.

okay so my new ecu came today. i put it in and she fired right up. held a steady idle and seemed okay. then tried to rev it.... it barely reved and back fired. sounded like it was misfiring horribly. but when i unhooked the MAF it died so i think i am making progress. any ideas on what to try next?

what, if any mods do you have? Are you sure it's got stock injectors? Did you ever move the MAFS? You CAN NOT put it that close to the turbo. Needs to be AT LEAST. 18" away. More is better. Have you tried pulling codes?

i moved the MAF i was told at least 7" away. i just put the ecu in today, planning on doing trouble shooting/pulling codes tomorrow. i'm not sure if they are stock injectors. the only mods are the dumb*** before me put an ebay gt28r turbo on a top mount manifold. he eliminated the the internal wastegate actuator and put an external wastegate on it. what i do want to try is to see if i have bad coil packs. i have a limited but expandable budget on it. it is a long story on that.
