I checked the cross reference section in this forum and either I missed it or its not there. I am beginning the rebuild this weekend and it will be getting new piston rings. Which engine would I need the rings for? I was assuming the CA18DE uses the same but since the DE isn't turbo I just need to be sure.

Also, I don't have a wiring harness for my CA but I do have a KA wiring harness and a CA Manual trans ECU. I originally was going to make my own harness and use Megasquirt II v3 but it is a little out of my price range (if you count in dyno runs and everything else). If I ultimatly have to I will use it but I am wondering if there is a way I could get the DET harness for very cheap or maybe out of another car. I was dissapointed that the KA and CA use different sized plugs into the ECU...Does anyone know of another Car that uses the SAME plug, if worse comes to worse I can make my own wiring harness for next to nothing and splice all the wiring onto a cut off plug from something else. I plan on using Meqasquirt soon but right away is going to be tough... Also I assume stock ecu will run a FMIC, open downpipe and 10psi with no issues?

My last question, I just bought a short shifter right before I laid my KA down. I don't have the CA transmission in hand yet (should be here saturday), are the shifters interchangable?

Thanks for any help. <3 KASilvia90

Dude, don't mean to be harsh, but if you can't afford a megasquirt system, you probably shouldn't be screwing around with turbocharged engines because they can be a money pit and too many people try and do things the cheapy-cheap way and they fail, miserably. But on the other hand, the CA18DET and the CA18DE uses the same rings and you can order these for an 88 pulsar with 1.8litre DOHC motor. Good luck on your quest.

I feel really dumb on the Megasquirt. The place I was looking at buying was charging close to $450 and then $150 for everything else that I was going to need, however I was on DIYAutotune and realized its much cheaper, so I am going to be using MS and a ford EDIS-4 ignition.

Money hasnt been a lot of an issue, the problem is I am rebuilding the engine from the ground up and I only started with the head/block. Ive had to buy the transmission ($180), entire rebuild etc. and decided to upgrade some things here and there such as ARP head studs/rod bolts and Cometic MLS gasket. I already bought that stuff and I had a sale with a local guy for a $900 set of wheels, he had to back out at the last minute and that $900 that I (bad idea, I know) had budgeted in was gone and that was Basically Megasquirt/Fuel pump...But today the guy called me back and told me he wants to buy them again and is adding $50 for the inconvience, so I've got some spending money.

Sorry if I sound cheap on here, I hate cutting corners, I like to do things right. Unfortunatly my S13 is my only car and it threw a rod and I got a great deal on the CA....But then I lost my job because management changed and the guy that said it was okay to work 1-2days a week instead of 5 (due to lack of car, could only work on mon/tuesdays) was transferred and the new guy canned me, so my original financial backing was gone. I've been selling stuff to finish this project

Sorry about the length

Find the plugs, buy wire, soldering iron and some 60/40 solder and go to town.
