I'm thinking i want to go with an SR20 swap right now, but here's a quick list of pros and cons for each, tell me if there's anything else i should consider. I don't think i know as much about the CA18 as i'd like to.

Pros:

SR20:bigger displacementhigher HP on stock boostbetter midrange torquebetter aftermarket support

CA18:cheaperbetter head? indestructible blockrevs higheruniquebetter gas mileage?

Cons:

SR20:not as unique, though no one has one in my area anyways...costs moreless than ideal flow through head?lower redline

CA18:hard to get parts (does the Greddy SR20 downpipe fit?)Less power stock...

My big questions here is which can produce more power on stock internals? Is a turbo upgrade required to get a CA into SR territory? For the 500 bucks or so that I will save on the CA a turbo upgrade could be a pretty reasonable thing. It seems a lot of people really in the know prefer the CA18. But it seems counterintuitive that it could make more power on less displacement. (though people love to come here and brag about smoking V8s... so I guess that's the whole point of the rice movement) I keep hearing that the CA head flows better. So how much better? What other benefits of the CA should i be aware of?anyway thanks...

i love my motor, but i would love some torque once and a while. parts are readily availble, just ask my neighbor hood parts stores they will tell yah and i bet one store at least could tell you what my project was! yeah thats how often im there getting parts! but thats also cus i have a 13yr motor from a junkyard halfway across the world and it was sitting for years, of course stuff will need renewed . it will take a little bit of money to get them running with the avg SR,

motor pumpgaugesFMICdownpipe exhaustboost controlturbo upgradefuel upgrade MAF upgradeChip it

then you will beable to run with and take out most mildly modded Sr motors ...

rochester NY huh , i used to spend summers up there in a town ship called Greece, nice area i may move back one day.

Try servicing an SR, it sucks. Try servicing a KA, it really sucks. I just hate timing chains and their keepers. I have a sentra right now with a GA16I engine in it and it has a very noisy timing chain keeper. 175hp as opposed to 205hp boils down to displacement and turbo size. The SR20DE and the CA18DE engine is seperated by 15hp (140 vs 125) and that's because the CA18DE is so restricted with all the emissions crap. I mean with it's 10.0:1 compression, I beat-up my sentra SE-r counter parts and others on a regular basis.

i think both are great motors, its all up what you want. and can get, CA's are half the cost of a SR around my parts, so that was my deciding factor, plus my car came with a CA and i had a CA lying around from my last project.

i say go either way, or go RB25 w/ T04R, 800cc, SDS etc...
