this question i guess 99 our of 100 people will say a sr20det.

Did you know in japan there is owner modifying their 180sx with these CA18DET, it's smaller horsepower so basically the turbo is smaller, their respond is faster than the SR20DET. So from 0-200M i put my money on CA18DET.

What's yours ? vote pleasewhich engine would win the 0-200M competition ?

you lost your money. We only have a 150 meter track to drag on here and the CA/SR class finals are always SR only clubs

I'll put money on a well built CA, I think in the end it all comes down to tunning and who builds a better powerband.

I like the CA, ultimate highway racer hehe...... (at least with such a monster turbo).

are you serious your CA18DET is a 300++ BHP

well i think a SR20DETT S15 will beat a CA18 heehesorry this is a CA team

well small cc the respond is faster it boils down to a well build motor

The CA needs the full quarter to reel in the torquier SR. I love my CA but I see it every time at the drags, the SR has the faster 60 foot times and when you are talking 200meters it makes that already important figure even more so.Highway though, I think it's a toss up. I saw a CA in a Japanese car mag with a stroker kit and T8834D! 700hp at over 2 kilo, nisch

Crazy.. CA18DET, yeah a stroker kit.. so it's not stock it's about a 2.0 stroke so it's somehow looks like a sr20det.. SR is easier coz they already have bigger turbos and then longer stroke at stock. Bigger pistons

but if a CA put in USD40,000K into his enginesand a SR20DET put a USD20,000 into his engines

then i put my money into the CA

My CA's been bored out 1mm, so that helps the displacement thing, besides just use a bigger cam to spool a bigger turbo and displacement is no longer an issue. And when it comes to boost Iron takes it better than Tin IMHO. But then I'm slightly bias in my opinion :)

SRs are nice but I just love my CA too much. I compare it to having an average looking girl but she likes and does everything you do and is your best freind. Then some Catherine Zeta Jones lookin chick walks by poppin bubblegum and tossing her hair around. Sure you look and admire but then it's back to a rock solid woman. The SR is cool but I'd kill it, the CA likes to be spanked.Come to think of it so do I!

Alot of guys here in south florida with SR's in their vehicles have dramas beyond CA owners wildest imagination. Detonation damages pistons, then damage that alloy block, now the block is unserviceable and you have to buy a new one (More money). FWD SR20 guys go through trannies like night and day. The ups about them is their linear power band, but that's it. (Only my opinion) It's an amazingly ugly, rounded engine with it's dufus intake manifold strategy, wimpy-*** valve train, wimpy block and it has too many fake -*** variations (red top, black top, grey top, Rnn14 GTi-R pulsar, S15 variable valve dealy and the avenir version). I'll take my CA anyday! Knock on wood my friend with SR20DET powered 200sx has not blown his engine yet and february will be 3 years since I built him that car, but not everyone is that fortunate. They call the CA18 a boat anchor, but that boat anchor saved my *** when I hit a pole at over 100mph and is still in one piece. I don't think no alloy nothing would have withstood that type of force. Call it hate, but I really don't hate the SR20. Most people don't understand the CA let alone know what it is. I've been asked so many times "what type of engine is that"? The SR is more popular and produces more sure footed power in stock form, but give me the highway and that bit of displacement and power is no more.

Not to mention it's a hell of a lot easier to find parts for the CA than the SR, go to autozone and try to get me a waterpump or oilpump for the SR.......

It's nice that u can supply this stuff for the SRcrowd, but if u use your car as a daily driver u need the part that's broken the day before!(not within a few weeks) Or u have to use the non turboed public bus for a few weeks.

But mind you, I'm not trying to start an in-house nissan war between the SR and the CA for they both are very respectable motors that can get the job done. I'm merely pointing out the fact that from my experiences, the CA has proven to be the all around workhorse/reliable guardian that I would have expected from nissan. And from my experiences, I've seen the guts of too many SR20 motors and too many busted SR20 trannies. And I can completely change my timing belt in less than an hour, can't say the sam for the 'ol chain. But to each his own..........

Unfortuantely, too many people either don't know what a CA18 is, scared of it because it may look complicated or is stuck on the hype of the JUN Hyper lemon car making good horespower. Well, unless you boys and girls got gobs of money to throw away on an engine that has to be completely redesigned to REV to 9000rpm and do it reliably, it doesn't seem like it's worth the hassle.

Quote »as you can see the poll.. CA is winning 2-10[/quote] Regardless, the SR20 engine is going to sell (point blank). The aftermarket is not as broad for the CA as it is for the SR, so people use that as a basis for choosing the SR. It's a great medium duty engine. Heavy foot people should consider an engine that can withstand constant wicked abuse. Everyone want to REV up like the skyline, but they forget that the SR and CA is not an RB25 or 26. The CA has the technology and was designed before the SR and RB series motors. But SR was nissan's cheap way out because with that wimpy valve train, you'll stay in business with the way these guys are destroying these motors. In stock performance, I would give the SR the advantage. But anything after that, they gets no love..... Kids love them, movies promote them and people like you supply them and all that's good. But if these people fail to research Best bang for the buck as opposed to Hp #'s, then I would say that they are as hopeless as a penny with a hole in it.

I agree not many aftermarket products on the CA. compare to SR20DET...

Well on the overall, the research on SR is more, so well still the sr20... is a better choice for MORE PERFORMANCE OR POWERFULL ENGINE compare to CA18DET
