Alot of guys here in south florida with SR's in their vehicles have dramas beyond CA owners wildest imagination. Detonation damages pistons, then damage that alloy block, now the block is unserviceable and you have to buy a new one (More money). FWD SR20 guys go through trannies like night and day. The ups about them is their linear power band, but that's it. (Only my opinion) It's an amazingly ugly, rounded engine with it's dufus intake manifold strategy, wimpy-*** valve train, wimpy block and it has too many fake -*** variations (red top, black top, grey top, Rnn14 GTi-R pulsar, S15 variable valve dealy and the avenir version). I'll take my CA anyday! Knock on wood my friend with SR20DET powered 200sx has not blown his engine yet and february will be 3 years since I built him that car, but not everyone is that fortunate. They call the CA18 a boat anchor, but that boat anchor saved my *** when I hit a pole at over 100mph and is still in one piece. I don't think no alloy nothing would have withstood that type of force. Call it hate, but I really don't hate the SR20. Most people don't understand the CA let alone know what it is. I've been asked so many times "what type of engine is that"? The SR is more popular and produces more sure footed power in stock form, but give me the highway and that bit of displacement and power is no more.
