Has anyone gone from the stock KA24 to a turbocharged CA18?

What differences in performance do you notice?

I found a CA18DET and am thinking of swapping it into my car but i'm worried that the change in performance might not be that great. Mostly i'm worried about the CA not having any power in the low end since it's a 1.8L as opposed to the KA's 2.4L a big difference in displacement.

Also what would be a good price on a CA18DET (Transmission included)? I saw only one listed on Ebay for 1650$ but you can't just go by that.

FAIL! We have a CA18 forum, and you should search before asking this. We can't make up your mind for you.

EDIT: Alright, don't feel like being a d!ck. You lose low end, my car has none. I pretty much have to rev it to 2k every time I let out the clutch so it doesn't fall on its face or stall completely. Its a great little motor, and you can get a lot of power out of them if you have the money, but they are all quite old now and will require a complete rebuild before you would want to install one. You will need a level of dedication to be a proper CA18DET owner.

Ya i know but the CA18DET is supposed to be a pretty strong motor. I know they've been built to over 600HP.

The KA24 is good but i definetly don't have the money to Turbo it.

I can get the CA for 1000 I can pry sell my KA for 300 or so and only be 700.

Really though, we have a forum for this, but search before you ask questions there, because they have ALL been covered.

Good to know but the thing is that my KA is Auto and the CA is Manual. So i'll wanna buy the whole thing anyway.

I guess the guy bought it to throw in a silvia project car he has but gave up on getting a title for the car. He's in a small town here in NM so he'll have trouble getting rid of it. I'm sure i can get the whole thing from him for a really good price.

If you can afford a Ca18det SWAP,you can afford to turbo the ka ! Ka parts are everywhere. Ca..... well there not everywhere. Next time you want to do a VS. thread, do us a favor and at least do a poll.

If you can get the whole swap for $1000 and do the wiring your self and basic maintenance Get the CA. At least you know It's meant to be turbo from the factory!

My personal opinion seing that i own both a usdm ka drop top with 73 000 on the odometer and a jdm ca18 with 70 000 on the odometer both with original km is by far my ca18.

Got to lock it, it's been discussed to death. My advice to you is think long and hard about what YOU want your engine to do, where does it make power? how much? is emmision BS a dealbreaker? Things like that. Then and only then look at your options. Don't just look at the KA or the CA, look at the SR and RB as well. Whichever motor has the best balance for your needs is the one you should get. No matter what engine you get rest assured it has a forum associated with it on NICO full of people who have been there, done that and are happy to help.
