I just put my ca18det no more then a month ago. When i start it in the morning i have to feather the gas very gentley or it will just die out or if i just push the gas pedel all the way down it will also die out also when im trying to acclerate i get alot of jerking hesatition fells like im not getting the full power out of my ca18det. Could this be the timing is off since its a older motor just need some ideas of whats wrong with my motor.

thanks fellas!!

YES!! Check for timing. That one or two cog off made the world of a difference for me.

Hello, my friend has the same engine, and it has nearly the same problem... but we also have the sensor that controls the throttle position not functioning correctly... if we engage the sensor the throttle position is over 1,500 rpms...

So whats happening basicly... is that we are disengaging the sensor and we are altering the Timing... to make it drivable... theres smoke comming out of the exhaust...

so what should we do? any help is appratiated...

All ca18det's get blown here in Lebanon for some sort of wierd reason... and this is the 3rd engine on this car... and even our other friend changed 3 engines also... we rreallly need some help here

I suggest a fsm for your needs. Fsm can be downloaded from this wonderful website.

There other ways but this is how I do it. I take the coilpack and the sparkplug off from the #1 cylinder. Then I stick a long screwdriver inside the hole, where it will lay on the piston. I turn the crank (the big *** bolt 27mm "i think" clockwise until Top Dead Center or when the screw driver is at the most top point. Then I take the upper timing belt cover off and check the marks on the cams.

I would start diagnosing the problem here. If you can't do this, I'd suggest taking it to someone that knows what they're doing. Good luck, buddy. Hope this helped.
