Hey guys, ive been planning on going with the Ca for a few months now and was planning on doing the swap over my winter break in december....anyways, i just read a thread about Ca owners always carrying bottles of water, cases of oil, rags, and tools everywhere they go even if its a short trip....is the Ca really a big pain to maintain and is it as bad as they said it is? does it leak a lot of oil and break down a lot? does everyone carry these items every time they drive their Ca? ect..

Any info would be good, i dont wanna get the swap and be dissapointed.

I carry my water, oil, and tools because I want to be safe. Its a cold day in hell when I actually have to use them. The CA does tend to prove a little more problematic than some other motors but it is well worth it. Mine leaks oil not out of the engine, but out of the transmission and steering rack, so its really not an issue one should take into account. Truth be told my CA is really reliable, its just lot of little things I make a big deal about. Just be warned that if you dont take proper precautions you will be in for a lot of problems down the line, but this is probably the case with most second hand engines.

would keeping or swapping the Ka 5 speed transmission in with the Ca a good idea and perhaps stop the leaking from the transmission? besides the ka has a longer 5th gear anyways i think.....and why does it leak from these 2 places...any reason in particular?

No, no, no, my transmission leaks because it sucks. The CA and KA transmission are the same thing. My steering rack is leaking because it too is shot. It has nothing to do with the engine. My CA leaks no fluids and purrs like a kitten.

My CA has been trouble free so far since it's been running for me.

I still keep my tools on me. I used to keep water on me, but after I got a new radiator that can actually keep up with the engine I don't have to worry about it at all, so i've stepped down from a gallon milk jug to a water bottle.

I don't carry oil with me right now, but that's just because I used the quart I had in the car for part of my last oil change.

Oh.. and I also keep a box of CA goodies in the car with me at all times.. Maybe i'm just paranoid of breaking down on the side of the road

i usually have a socketset in my car just incass somthing happens, nothing to do with the ca18 tho. its a car, you cant stop them from needing a helping hand once in a while. and a philips head and flat head screw driver.

Mine doesnt loose any water but it does use a bit of oil, may be by turbo, im notsure it doesnt actully leek oil just uses it.. nothing to rowdy tho, i change my oil every 5,000 anyway. so only needs a bit inbetween.
