Hello, I have seen similar topics about this, but they are more than 4-5 years old and maybe some things changed since..

So my question is will the standard CA18DET intake manifold flow enough to support 500hp without too much of a hassle ? Is porting the runners necessary ? Also, how much should the intake and exhaust ports on the cylinder head be enlarged with ? How many mm in diameter or something ?

I would prefer sticking with the stock mani, as I really like how it looks..

I can't tell you the limit, but most people I know in that power range are using the stock CA manifold without issues.
No porting either, it's a turbocharged engine :-)
We are using the euro heads over here .

It's not an issue of if it's possible. It's an issue, IMHO, of how much power is it costing you. I'm sure you could make 700hp on the stock intake. But What if a well designed intake could gain you 10% more flow. At 250hp, 10% more power may not be worth the cost. But at 500hp, that's a different story IMHO.

That was my logic in buying a CPC manifold. I'm SURE I could make the 400whp that I'm after on the stock intake. But if I could hit that mark with less boost on the CPC and have no negative side effects, then it was worth the expense IMHO.

Tommey, same EDM CA18DET here, so we are talking about the same thing :)

Float_6969, so basically, yes, it can be done, but it can also be improved. Thanks, that's all I wanted to know :)

As for porting, I think the valve seats' area could use a rework, turbo or non-turbo engine-wise.

I've run both the 8 and 4 port (I have a 4 port now) and the exhaust port castings are pretty bad IMHO. I had to do a lot of work, just to get them unshrouded and even, but a simple port match and blending of the port bowls to the valve seats makes a HUGE difference.
