have followed all the information i read about CA18det ECU pinouts and have connected wire 53 a Yellow / Green stripe wire to the harness in the car.

My speedo when you fire up the car max's it self out 1/2 the time. the other half it works temperamentally. I can be cruising along and it will spike or skip or stick and then later return tot he correct speed, usually when i come to a stop. Is this system digital with a bad sensor? I have a CA18det in a 89 s13. let me know if you need more info. I have tried a different in dash speedo unit and the same thing happens.

Also how do i hook up the check engine light? is it possible? Pins 32 - Check lamp output to check connector (green) and 33 - Check lamp output to check connector (red) look like they would be useful in this application. what to i hook them to in the dash side harness?

Thanks

check engine light should be within that brown/white plug under your dash, should have been connected when you wired the motor up, as for the Speedo, i dont know maybe your speedo sensor is taking a **** on you, OR maybe you have a bad cluster? not sure man, maybe some of the others can shoot you some ideas

It's most likely the cluster. I had the same problem on my S13. I tried 4 different sensors, all having the same result. It was very intermittent.

I suspect there may have been some poor soldier joints on the board in the cluster that fail over time.

I sold my S13 before I ever had a chance to fix it.

How does the brown and white plug under the dash get connected to the ECU? I wired it like this inside the car.

I also swapped it for another cluster.. prob the sensor. then. Would it be the same sensor as the KA transmission? same things right?

Thanks
