Hi All,

Basically i bought an s13 8 months ago, and due to work commitments i havent had time to get her running. So while i have a few days off, i decided to get cracking on it.

The engine:

Mahle Pistonsstage 3 chipT28 Turbo300zx MAF?Big FMICLarger injectors

As it stands, the car will start, but will only idle. If i try and rev it atall then it dies. I can however rev it when it first starts, up to about 4-5000 then it dies instantly and will barely idle. It sounds great on idle,

I have changed the plugs, checked the cambelt position, but still the same problems! Im wondering wether the vacuum piping etc is correct? is there anywhere i can get diagrams to check? or would that even be the cause?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am new to these engines, and it so badly needs to be taken out for a thrash!

Cheers,

Has the ECU been remaped to suit the bigger MAF/AFM, injectors and turbo?

Im not sure if it has been remapped, does that sound like the problem? I assumed that the chip remapped it.? I was told that the car ran before i bought it but then suffered fueling issues and didnt run properly. I bought the car as he needed money asap.

yeah, that sounds like your problem, standalone FTW (and you can sell the chip + ECU to recoupe some money)

theres stickies on Megasquirt and Emanage, and a conglomorate one on pluses and minuses of different ones

you can get into an SDS or megasquirt for under ~+-1000 out the door

the squirt can go as low as a few hundred if you assemble from kits and do everything yourself, but you can buy ones already built with options like efans and butterflies it interfaces with a computer and you can get a hand controller for itand its completly open source if youre a nerd like me and like to program, youll like it

SDS is all built out of the box, youll need to put magnets on your crank and build a bracket (in most cases youll do that with the squirt too, but dont have to) but SDS is supposed to be a whole lot easier to program, and modify the tables with the hand controller

both of those you will need to make your own harness

Plug in optionsApex PowerFC (i just sold one, i forget the dudes username, but hees using it this weekend, we will see the results)

Greddy Emanage, see sticky for description, i have never seen or touched or know anything

AEM, or alot of other plug and play ones. you can use an SR one if you repin your ECU plug

i really reccommend a standalone, as youll always be able to retune it (when you get a wideband) yourself whenever you get a new mod, then just go do 1 dyno run to see your numbers instead of having to tune on it

if the car ran properly with the electronics it has at one time this probably means a component has went bad. Check a service manual on pulling codes this could deftly go a long ways and pointing you in the right direction. this isn't very difficult to do you just need to pull the ECU down say you can see the lights on it and get access to a switch that is triggered with a flat blighted screwdriver when rotating. Your symptoms also sound like a bad air flow meter. I also ran into some interesting problems when fuel pressure regulators go bad so check to fuel pressure.I hope this will help you out on your problem

nuts510 nailed it. Whenever you have a problem like this, the FIRST thing you should ALWAYS do is pull the codes from the ECU. This info is available from the FSM, which can be DL'd from a link posted in the stickies.
